I received the desk on time and it came in a well packaged box. There was ample styrofoam padding and all the pieces (and there were a lot) were packed neatly. To be honest, once I began taking all the pieces out I became a bit nervous because I figured there's no way all the pieces and various screws would be included. Fortunately, I was wrong. In fact, this is one of the best packaged furniture pieces I have ever bought. All the different screws came in their own bags with part numbers labeled and all the pieces each had a part number sticker which made building the desk very straightforward. Bush did an amazing job!
The included instructions were also very good. All the steps made sense and an extra "Tips" sheet was included to help provide extra instruction if needed (but having put together many pieces of furniture before I didn't use the sheet).
It took me a while to put the desk together (I was multitasking) but still completed it within a couple hours.
The worst part of building the desk was the 54 cam locks that needed to be screwed into the various board pieces which also took up the most build time and gave me calluses for my efforts. There were also a couple side pieces (to the pull out portion) which seemed to use a lower grade MDF but still everything worked out just fine.
I couldn't be happier with this extendable desk. The packaging was great, instructions were great, and all the pieces were included, undamaged, and correctly labeled...and it's a really good looking furniture piece as well. It looks fantastic right next to my expensive Macy's leather recliner. The desk's pull out function works smoothly and the whole piece seems to be very sturdy and something that could last a number of years. The only caveat is that I'm using it on hardwood floor and am not sure if it works as well on carpet (haven't tried it). I would imagine it would be difficult to pull out on a thicker or shag carpet but on a thinner piece it should work just fine.
I gave this desk 5 stars even though there were a lot of pieces to assemble, a couple MDF pieces seemed on the cheap side (though this impression doesn't last once the desk is built), and I developed calluses; but for around $140 it's a beautiful, quality, and inexpensive addition to your home or office space.
Update 10-20-2014 Over a year now and desk is still solid, although I moved twice since I bought it and on last move I spent the time to re-tighten some of the screws at the legs because all the lifting and moving made it a bit wobbly, I still think this is a great desk, I have a few ideas for the future of this desk though
1. I know laminated particle board tops are cheaper but it would be nicer if it was real wood on working surfaces so scratches can be repainted or repaired(I scratched mine working on a Xbox360 that needed repair)
2. I know those Furniture Cam Locks(Big round Philips head lock nut that attach to screwing metal pins) are common place but they suck, it's time for a redesign. Why not a slot for a nut in the wood that doesn't allow nut to spin and just thread a bolt in. Cam locks always come loose, they tend to tighten but not enough that everyday use of desk doesn't wiggle them loose overtime, I miss the days when furniture was made to not come apart ever again. Plus the cam locks tend to be held by the half inch or so of wood between the cam lock disc and the adjoining wood and when too much pressure is placed on the particle board it just rips apart tearing the cam out and the half inch of particle board that the metal peg travels through causing sometimes irreparable damage to particle board(much rather a screw pull out and replace it with a bigger screw or re-tighten with carpenters glue).
Only con was a couple of the screws broke off and I had to (easily) rectify using Gorilla Super Glue Gel, 15 g, Clear . This was my error though as I was cutting corners by using a power tool and forgot to loosen by hand when readjusting. Overall I am extremely happy with this purchase. Highly recommend it.
