This is a short board book (10 pages) with a thick cardboard baby face in the middle that swivels easily to reveal a happy or sad expression. Well-made construction and very easy for my 2-year-old to turn the pages and maneuver the moveable face. Short enough for even the most limited attention span and those with longer attention spans love to play with the swivel face and turn the pages back and forth over and over. The scenes in the book depict common social skills that toddlers encounter: meeting new friends, sharing, independence, cleaning up after ourselves, helping a friend, common social greetings.
The colors are bold, and the design has a retro modern/mid-century timelessness. The cute animals and simple graphics leap brightly from the page...visually attention-grabbing whether I'm reading it at home with my toddler or to small groups of 0, 1, or 2-year-olds in a storytime or classroom setting. The illustrations also contain basic shapes, colors, animals, and actions that can be located or named by the child and or adult reader to promote vocabulary development and other pre-literacy reading skills.
