Even though the romance between Carlos and Mel appears to proceed very quickly, in fact Mel and Carlos had known each other all their lives, and Carlos had always had a crush on Mel since he was a small kid. Mel had moved away six years earlier while Carlos was still a nerdy kid, but after meeting again six years later, Carlos had grown into a handsome young man. When they reconnected during Carlos's short visit, their relationship proceeded quickly, as if they had never been apart. They both wanted to make a go of it, but Carlos had his life and career set in St. Paul, and Mel had his career set in Tucson. Would the long distance be a hindrance to their having a committed relationship? Love always finds a way, and things manage to work out in spite of distance and family intervention.
All the characters had a real feel and were just like families everywhere. Loved Aldo’s and Carlos’ Nana. For me, this story ends with more of a happy for now/let’s see how this works than a happy ever after ending. That means I would love to read more about Mel and Carlos, see where their relationship goes.
