Welcome to the club! The stepmom club, that is.
But I’m NOT a Wicked Stepmother! is the go-to book for any woman who wants to succeed as a stepmother. Authors Kathi Lipp and Carol Boley, stepmoms themselves, offer straight talk to help women blend two families into a cohesive unit, while maintaining sanity in the process. With humor and a down-to-earth style, these authors share their own personal stories and those of other stepmoms and experts along the way. Every chapter captures a realistic view of stepmotherhood and offers plenty of help and hope.
You’ll learn from a wide range of topics how to:
- communicate clearly
- set up step-systems that work
- define your role in the family
- protect your marriage
- seek and accept forgiveness
- connect to God’s heart

A key point this book emphasizes is that our worth is not based on how others see us or treat us, or even on how good a job we’re doing as a stepmom—because we will fail!— but on how God sees us. It’s so easy to get hung up on our insecurities when our stepchildren disregard our efforts or we don’t live up to our expectations or those of our spouse and feel defeated in our role. But our success as stepmoms isn’t on the outcome of the stepmom-stepchild relationship but instead, whether we allow God to guide us in our role (our attitudes and behaviors) and allow His love and grace to flow through us to our stepchildren.
There are a lot of other great tips on how to define your role, dealing with the ex, protecting your marriage, the importance of forgiveness and trust, and much more! I recommend this book to any stepmom, regardless of what stage of the journey you're in—you will find nuggets of gold to guide you!
