Below is my original review. I wrote it shortly after receiving it. Although the color and pattern did outlast the cheapies I had purchased earlier that were stamped with images of grapes and vegetables and cheerful little cooks, I found that if I used a kitchen spray to clean the grease off this mat, over the course of time the brown would rub off. This is nevertheless the second-best mat I have owned. The very best is still in my kitchen.
Recently retired, my spouse and I have stopped eating so much restaurant food and now I make dinner at least 5 nights every week. I have severe arthritis and the floor in my kitchen is wood, so I have purchased--over the past three years--a variety of different kitchen mats. Some started out great, but they had designs stamped on that made the kitchen look cheerful when they were new, but looked just plain seedy once I'd walked on them often enough for the print to rub off. Some were so thin that they provided no real cushion, and were purely decorative. Some were of a cheap type of cushion material that grew crunchy in less than a year. And one, which I am also still using, is great except that there's trim around the outside that my beagle pup finds irresistible. Yum.
This is the best of the batch. I've only had it a month so I don't know how I'll feel about it a year from now, but it's wide enough to cover one work area at the counter and still protect the wood floor near the sink, and my spine practically cries from relief when I step onto it. I wipe it clean with a damp sponge and dishwashing liquid once a week unless there's a spill; meanwhile, the dark color doesn't show every little thing. I find the brown color warmer looking than black.
If the mat in front of my stove wears out, I will most likely order another one of these.
