The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast Hardcover by William Plomere and illustrated by Alan Aldridge is a wonderfully produced book of imagination and art. If you would like to have a coffee table book for children or a wonderful addition to your library, your own or the local public library this is it. 1970's illustrator Alan Aldridge gave us so many pop culture drawings of the Beatles, Elton John and other's vynal album covers and illustrations. Visit his talent again in this story of imaginative thought and visual beauty of the Butterfly Ball in this breathtaking modern classic. Richard Fitter writes nature notes on each creature and an introduction to the life and work of Alan Aldridge. I love this book.

I got this book for my mother after she mentioned it maybe eight years ago in some dusty bookshop of my childhood. Needless to say, she was definitely surprised when she opened it on Christmas Day. The illustrations were beautiful, and the additional information at the back of the book wonderful. She loved it so much, she might even be getting a tattoo of one of the characters. I would definitely recommend this to anyone, be they young or old, appreciative of poems or art or books in general.

Beautiful illustrations make this a fun book for any shelf. It's out of the ordinary in a very appealing fashion; the kind of book a kid could get lost in.

I have been looking for this book for years. It has "always been out of print"...what an absolute delight. I must have read this book to my boys at least 500 times. It was their most frequently requested book. The pictures are wonderful, the lyrical quality of the verse is very rarely matched. Both of my boys laid claim to it so it has remained with me. Now they can both have their own copies and I can begin another tradition reading it to my granddaughter.

My grandmother originally bought me a copy of this in the 70's as a present and took me into Melbourne AU to see the Myer Christmas window display of the same theme.
Was thrilled that I was able to get another copy to share with my daughter, it brought back many happy childhood memories for me.
The illustrations throughout are fantastic and a thoroughly magical story.

Je ne connaissais que la chanson de Roger Glover et son clip captivant. Du coup, le fait d'ouvrir ce livre m'a replongé dans cet univers haut en couleurs. C'est magique. Mais c'est une bonne idée de cadeau !

The Butterfly Ball & The Grasshoppers Feast is not only a visual treat it is a fantastical story. Alan Aldridge has created something beautiful with words and delightful illustrations that bring the bugs and creepy crawlies to life. You really feel that you are travelling to a maskerade ball with all manner of pleasant bugs!
I've known of this book for over 30 years, having first read it when staying with my stepmother as a child. It captivated me with the color and story. As an adult I had almost forgotten the story but the images stayed in my head. I often thought "I really should buy it as it is such a lovely memory" and have long looked for a copy. My significant other at first thought I was being sentimental until he read it and, like me, has fallen in love with the story and images. So much so, he's taken it to school and read it to his class!
I would recommend it as a purchase for a lovely family heirloom. To own this book is to own a treasure. To be able to pass it down through the generations is something special.
All in all, a terrific purchase and one that has bought a nostalgic warmth back. The seller was terrific and I am so grateful to her for passing the book on so well and in such wonderful condition.
Buy this book!
