I'm not sure what to make of this book. On one hand, it is the bittersweet story of 2 people who cannot let go of the past. On the other hand, it is a story of a month long friend f*ck. So many times, I asked myself why I kept reading. I guess that the answer is that we all have things we regret in life...lost loves, chances to apologize, chances to make things right. This couple seems a bit manhocismic. Why put yourself in the firing line? Especially since you know the other will not hesitate to pull the trigger? I'm not sure how I feel about the ending...can't say that I thought it was romantic, that would be lying. I guess in someone's world it might be called honest?
I suggest you read & make up your own mind.
I really wanted to like this book, and there were a couple of things that I did like. Unfortunately, they were ultimately overshadowed by my confusion over some of the terminology and general disinterest in the main characters. They were both young and had a difficult time with fidelity. Years later, Zac and his friends have a game going where they rack up points for the girls they hook up with. Seriously?!? And some of the girls described sounded like they were in high school! The way Zac flip flops over Jess was pretty much the end for me.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
A gifted musician Isaac's music eases his despair until he can return and face his first love once more. This is a novel about growing-up, facing past mistakes with honesty - and being brave enough to risk heartache all over again.
Like any good story the threads are collected and spun into a strong yarn. I read an Advance Reader's Copy some time ago. The imagery lingers, created by Meg's vivid word pictures.. Beautifully written.
Married at the age of 18, then left his wife after loosing their daughter, wanting to make a life as a musician. Now after few years of absence he comes back home and wants to make things right by starting being friends again with his wife. They talk things trought, sharing the difficulties they encountered, but some things aren't easy to talk about. Will they finally find peace ? Will they find each other again and find their happily ever after ? Hurts, betrayal, troubles, bumps in the road, twists and turns, easy read, captivating, emotional.
