The latches don't raise up as expected, but hit the bar hard and don't move. I had to bend and oil the joint to get it to go up at all but it still didn't work. The metal pieces around the pin weren't smooth, so I had to file down bumps. Then I had to file the lift itself. Now it finally moves up and down.
But then it still didn't work.
Unlike in the picture, the two sideways U-shaped metal pieces where the pins reside stick so far forward that now the lift goes up and the post strikes the metal piece. I need to cut off about an inch. In the picture, the pin is at the end of the metal piece. The ones I received the metal piece is about an inch past the pin.
Also, unlike the picture, the part that holds the U-shaped screw is quite long. Much longer than the picture shows. It is a second piece attached via a weld instead of the same piece. It doesn't look anything like the picture. Which means to make this work, I have to have to move my gate or my post so there is a huge gap between them to make this usable. However, I can't easily move either as the gate is between two posts that are on cement and fixed in place. I'd have to order a custom-sized gate that is two inches less wide.
If you don't work in a machine shop so you can resolve all the problems, then this item is not for you. Of course, if you do work at a machine shop, make your own as these look and work (or don't work) like they were made by a kid in their first high school machine shop class.
The latch was installed to easily open and securely close a driveway gate (Appx. 4 ft X 8 ft).
After two months of use, the cast aluminium main body cracked and broke up.
When I found its pieces on the ground, my first thought was that perhaps a vehicle had hit the gate or the latch, trying to make a U turn. After further inspection I did not see any obvious impacted parts. My only conclusion is that after only two months of use, the aluminum casting cracked and eventually broke apart.
I got what I paid for.
Now to look for a better one.

works great, I didn't like the bent bolt that was sent with it to secure it to the post. Went and bought a u-bolt and everything is fine.Published 1 month ago by s pres
