Confession: My husband is a syrup freak.
He's also a bit of a sugar addict, so his morning syrup obsession doesn't come as a surprise. He doesn't care what kind it is, but I care what he's putting into his body, so I wanted to find a healthier alternative for him than the fake maple syrup he was buying at the grocery store.
This arrived quickly, and it was immediately obvious how different it is than the fake syrup he'd been using. This has a thinner consistency, is definitely sweeter, and has a richer, deeper flavor. You'd think he'd use less since all of this should make this a more efficient condiment. Nah. And while most people would benefit from having to use less syrup (thus resulting in an end price somewhere around what you were spending on the fake kind), not my husband. So, this is a far pricier option for us, which ultimately makes it an item that's more of a splurge rather than a staple. For anyone who's looking for a good quality, real maple syrup, this is going to be a nice product.
My only disappointment with this product is the packaging, which actually may play a significant role in my husband's chronic overindulging: the mouth on the spout to dispense it is far larger than it needs to be, making it really easy to over-pour, and thus, waste a lot of syrup that pools on your plate but you never actually consume. This packaging seems to be pretty popular in the syrup world right now, as I saw this exact bottle and top combo in my local grocery store. It's kind of ingenious as it makes you go through the product far more quickly than you would with a smaller hole as a dispenser. I might look to see if I can find something else that will fit on the bottle and help to minimize the flow of product from it more and see if that makes a difference, if it does, I'd keep this in my kitchen as a staple!
