Ok, so these wipes do have a lot of lint after the first wash, which was something I anticipated from someone else’s review.( I could make a 3” plush toy from all the lint! Lol, but I bought 3 packs. So maybe that’s why.)
The stitching on mine seemed solid and like they wouldn’t tear or unravel. They feel thinner than anticipated once washing, but I suspect they can still be reliable and be on the thinner side. Wet wipes are.
They are SUPER soft. Would work well as face wipes for removing makeup or even after giving yourself a facial. Hoping that the soft/ smooth texture is still reliable when it comes to getting a blow out controlled, or a messy situation. We always bought textured wipes which help ensure a more thorough clean, these are not. So we will have to see. I did sew about 20 myself using cotton on one side and a gently honeycomb thermal material, for stubborn poo diapers, just in case! So total we have about 60 wipes- I want to be sure we don’t run out of clean wipes when we need them.
I folded them and tucked 20 into my wipe warmer ready to soak and plug in once baby comes or early labor sets in. And we put the other 20 aside, pre folded ready to pop into the the wipe warmer once the first batch run out. I may reduce the amount I add to the warmer once we go through trial and error and will try to update my review accordingly regarding how we use them, and how well they work.
As far as care goes, I can see that these would become useless if laundered with fabric softener so I wouldn’t recommend! I plan on washing them with hot water/ detergent/ and our stain remover- sanitizer stuff we get. I won’t be washing the wipes with my cloth diapers but instead with the cloth liners that go into my pocket diapers. The goal here is to ensure that I don’t ruin the pul using the hot water on my washing machine, and to ensure that they get a really good solid clean/ to kill any ammonia. I may even do a soak with our stain remover periodically.
I Will likely use the antibacterial setting on my dryer with them, which might cause them to wear out sooner than normal. But I plan to mix this with drying in the line occasionally too, so the sunshine can do its job as well. If I have to buy more in 4-6 months that’s ok for me too. I’d still be saving a ton compared to what I’d be spending for the brand of wet wipes I prefer.
I found a convenient way to fold them so that when I pull one out of the wipe warmer it will bring the next one up with it. I’ll share my filing method at the end of the review.
My munchkin wipe warmer can hold 20 (folded in this manner) of these at once without them being compressed. I purchased wipe solution that I intend to prepare during early labor and set the wipes to soak in the wipe warmer with until baby comes or we are ready to plug in during active labor.
All in all, I’m Excited to give them a solid whirl since we’re doing cloth diapers from the start with our boy. (Did them with our daughter after about 4 months but never did the cloth wipes so we will see how it goes.)
My folding Method: I just repeatedly overlapped the wipes by 1/2-
one right 1/2 overlaps the left 1/2 of the other wipe.
Then fold the left 1/2 thats uncovered by the right wipe over hotdog style on top of the other.
Place the next wipe overlapping the now 3 layered center on top just as the first wipe was, and fold in the right side.
Continue until the desired amount is reached.
***update***I was hoping these would last longer then they have.(have lasted a year) The fabric is thinning a lot and Ive thrown many away- some have holes now, seems came undone, and they’re at this point that they have lost all their softness. They feel like old flannel. The ones I made are holding up much better.
Someone suggested making my own wipes. Ummm EWW no thank you. Well, one week into bideting and I was ready. Bought these and found a simple homemade solution to use with them. These are the perfect size to fit in a Tupperware container, I mix 2 cups filtered water with 2 tbsp olive oil and 2 tbsp baby shampoo/body wash (this usually gets me 2-3 batches of wipes).
When changing, I wipe off as much of the poo as possible with his diaper and usually only need one cloth wipe (as opposed to 4 disposable!). I keep a wet bag hung on a command hook by his changing table, and throw the used wipes in there. Then when it’s time to wash them, I throw them in my machine on heavy duty/extra rinse, and I use an organic detergent.
Literally, becoming an accidental crunch momma has been super easy. These wipes are really soft and I would recommend them to anyone getting into the reusable wipes world. They have warped shape on me through washing but honestly, who the heck cares? They still wipe my child’s bum just fine.
If you’re child is struggling with persistent diaper rash, 10/10 would recommend these.
