Along with being a good businesswoman, Sarah has discovered she has a talent for solving mysteries. With the help of a group of lovable "mature" women, nicknamed " Charlotte's Angels", who were friends of Sarah's beloved grandmother who passed away, a handsome business partner, a dashing senior computer expert, a childhood crush and a cool cat named Elvis, Sarah finds herself, once again, in the middle of a mystery.
When the lone "holdout" to a development deal that will change North Harbor forever is murdered, Sarah and her friends are on the case. Hopefully, they can solve the crime before they become the next victims.
Buy a Whisker has all of the elements in a cozy that I enjoy - a "whodunit" that keeps you guessing, humor, a little romance, a quaint setting with eccentric and lovable characters and, of course, a furry crime solving companion!
Sofie Ryan has created a series filled with mystery, humor, friendship and romance. I love this series and can't wait for the next book!
I received an ARC for a fair and honest review of this book.
Is she ready for a relationship? Which one will she chose? In the end, the murderer in both cases is brought to justice. Sarah will finally made her decision for which man she prefers. Elvis (the cat) will also show his loyalty to Sarah and help to protect her when she is attacked.
These books are about a group of friends willing to give their all to help each other and their friends. Old ladies seem to be invisible according to Rose. We can find out things most people won't tell others. Looking forward to the next book.
The writing is impeccable and evocative. The interplay between the young (Avery and Asia are respectively a teenage granddaughter of one of the three "angels" and the daughter of one of the men who plays in a band at a local restaurant) and old (Rose, Charlotte, and Liz) who are working on finding the murderer) was fascinating. The book treats older people with great respect and care. Old people don't lose their youth when they grow older. They in fact get more set in their way. As Rose pointed out, there are a few good things about getting old that compensate for some of the bad things with aging. You may not move as fast as when you were young but you are smarter and less foolish. People don't change that much when they age.
This is one of the best detective series that I have read in a long time. It is not quite as dark and twisted as Robert Galbraith (J. K. Rowling) books. What the book does is celebrate the life of older women who live deeply and love passionately not just each other but the people they consider their family. The setting is a small Maine town where everybody knows each other. The weather is cold. The cats are smart. And, yes, older women can be very stylish and older men can and do fall in love with them and vice versa. Old cats and people do get second chances in life. That theme shines throughout the book.
There is no sex or violence just a nice friendly read but plenty of action. Elvis receives a gift and his antics add humor.
A North Harbor developer has submitted plans for new business district along the coast. They have secured all the property needed except a small bakery that is blocking the development. This is causing friction among the residents. When the owner Lily is murder and Liz is a suspect. Charlotte's Angels plan to probe the case against all advice. The motive for Lily's is not clear. Now I need to wait a year for the next book.
