In just a few minutes you can set up your hammock with the the Byer of Maine Madera Hammock Stand and have plenty of your summer afternoon left to laze away in comfort. You just set the legs, drive the metal pin into the ground, and attach your hammock. It's just as easy to break down if you want to store it away, or move it to another location.
The Madera stand is designed to be used with all Byer of Maine hammocks, including the Gigante. It is intended to be used where you have a single tree or post ideal for hanging your hammock, but need a second hanging point. The infinite adjustability of the stand means you can choose just how much slack you want.
When set up, the Madera measures 64" high. Supports up to 250 lbs, making this a great option for a single person to lounge with a book.
The natural hardwood legs are joined with steel braces. The cord is nylon, and attaches to a steel hook. Hang your hammock from the attached Carabiner snap hook. No additional hooks, cords, or other attachments are required, other than what comes with the hammock itself.
This stand is designed specifically to be used outdoors. The easy setup and take down makes it ideal for taking on the road for car camping, as well as in the comfort of your own backyard. To maintain their beauty and life, use your preferred exterior wood protector once a year.

In the 1950’s, the company’s focus returned to consumer products.

Not good for camping

We bought two of these to add to our hammock camping gear, so that we could camp at sites that didn't have two perfectly spaced trees. We had trouble getting the giant stakes into the ground. It took two of us to set the thing up -- one to hold it in place while the other secured the line and hammock. Once that was done, we had a new problem -- the "feet" of the stand kept trying to slide apart, causing the person in the hammock to find themselves, rather abruptly, on the ground. The feet were not pointed enough to drive in, so we ended up tying them together and staking the lines down to keep them from riding up. All in all, it took nearly an hour to get two of these set up. In fairness, the ground was far from ideal -- semi-packed dirt with gravel on top -- but I will note we had no issues with any of our other gear.

When it came time to break camp, three of the four poles were firmly stuck together, and required a mallet and both of us pulling to get them apart.

We will not be taking these camping again. Unfortunately, they are very dirty and banged up from our attempts to use them, so I do not think they can be returned. If you have a yard with nice soft dirt and grass, where you can set this up easily and leave it up, it may be for you. Otherwise, I would look elsewhere.

The product could be vastly improved by adding a rope between the two feet, to ensure correct spacing, and replacing the giant stake with another type of ground anchor (the other stand we tested uses an "orange screw" auger, which went in easily and stayed in until we unscrewed it.)

Handy Piece of Gear For Hammock Camping

A well-designed and useful piece of equipment for hammock campers who have only a single permanent attachment point for their hammock. I set it up in the back yard to test it out and it worked just as advertised. It can be a little unwieldy for single-person set-up because the metal sleeves that hold the halves of each leg together are just a bit loose, so once the legs are assembled if you pick it up from the top to move it around for adjustment the lower part of one or both legs might fall out. Not a huge issue, as they are easily re-inserted into the sleeve, and I might try putting a wrap or 2 of duct tape or electrical tape around the end of the lower leg that inserts into the sleeve just to tighten things up a bit. The tensioning rope is thick and strong. The anchoring stake is HUGE (and heavy--it accounts for probably half the weight of the entire rig). Due to its size you might have trouble driving the stake into dry or hard-packed ground, but driving it into damp ground presents no difficulty. Once I got it set up I tied the opposite end of my hammock to a tree and got in it, and it was completely stable and sturdy. I wish it had come with a carrying case or bag, but all the components should easily fit into a 36" duffle bag. I wouldn't recommend this stand as a permanent solution for backyard hanging because the wood isn't treated against moisture and so the ground-end of the legs would likely degrade if it was set up and left out in the weather for weeks or months at a time. But for camping or other short-term hammocking situations, this is a good choice.

Great Idea, but where is the carry bag?

This a handy device, who can find two trees just the right distance apart and in the shade. This stand is quite helpful, especially camping. You can easily re position your hammock to stay in the shade in less than a minute. You will need a hammer for the stake. It comes with a huge stake, but you need to be careful to make sure the legs are closer to the tree than the top or the stake may pull out. Not a problem with the stand, you just need to follow the instructions.

Two gripes, there is no bag to carry this in. It comes apart with several pieces and needs a bag. The second is you may need a small strap to hook the hammock to the stand. I use a short NRS 1 inch strap. The product works well. I wish I had bought one years ago, I have missed a lot of lounging for lack of two perfectly placed trees.

Okay, So this thing is fantastic... but I am glad I read about it ahead of time. Instructions so basic it should be easy. It is but I am grateful I read the reviews. Its a little tricky and of course it needs some simple adjusting here and there before you get settled. I will say once you have the "hang" of it set up is really easy. I connected the other end of the hammock to webbing I had attached to my car. I am very happy I bought it. I am also very happy I have my own Carabiners. This one had some rough edges and was snagging the rope on my hammock. Not a big deal as I prefer my own equipment anyway.
Only downfall Once I put it together I couldn't get the legs apart (rain caused the wood to swell).

Mine is setup in my backyard and it works great. It is easy to put together, but clumsy to setup for one person. The leg design is sturdy and I have had no problems.
My tip: While the anchor hook is long and strong if you can pound it into the ground then the ground is too soft and it will eventually pull out. My solution was to buy tree straps and a nylon rope. I used these items to reach another tree/support to anchor the stand.

I do recommend this item.
