Once again, Jimmi Seiter didn't let his public and pals down with the truth being told once again about life on the road and in the cities with the Byrds, Janis Joplin and other icons of the times. Don't stop now, give 'em hell Jimmi.

Jimmi gets his writing skills better with each volume..a little rough at first..these stories are better, too! Less repetition! Must read for Byrds Fans!

After reading the first three volumes, I expected more of the same in Vol. 4. And that is mostly what I got, with a few improvements. The country Byrds is an interesting topic, and Seiter gives a lot more information on the band members of this time, especially Gram Parsons. I'm not a great fan of Gram Parsons, but Seiter's portrayal of the man is sympathetic but balanced, and that is a positive point. Kevin Kelly, however, still sems a mystery to me, as I suspect he was to Seiter just as well. Nonetheless, very little has beejn written about Kelly, and this book certainly fills that gap. As for the rest, McGuinn is still the villain, Hillman still doesn't come across clearly, and Jimmi Seiter is still the star of the show. He doesn't seem to do anything wrong, and maybe he was as good as he says; I wouldn't know. But Seiter's self-congratulation can get a little tiresome at times. The narrative string is a little organized than in previous volumes, and often follows a logical chronological order. I don't think Seiter is particularly worried about unities of time and place, and that is his option. There is at least repetition than in previous volumes, and that's a plus. In the end, what makes this book a good read is Seiter's first-hand experience with the band and his detailed portrayal of the road manager's complex role in a band's live tours. The resumed attention to Seiter's sexual exploits is a distraction, and does nothing to endear the reader to the author. Sorry, Jimmi, but who cares how many women you bedded as a result of your job? Stick to the interesting parts. Overall, you have to approach this book as a very loose narrative with many interesting parts and, unfortunately, many boring parts as well. I think the positive aspects of the book outweigh the negative ones, but you really have to be a fan of the Byrds to enjoy the book.
