MOTOR/PLAYBACK/RECORDING NEW TAPES: I've gone through 4 of these due to trying to find a strong one for me and my little one. I cannot confirm if this is a power issue or motor issue. I've tested with USB power and brand new duracell batteries: recording 60min / 90min tapes is not reliable. The spindles / black knobs that rewind / fastforward / play the cassette tapes get stuck. This mostly happens with recording and rewinding, though I wouldn't be surprised if it happens when it plays as well. When this happens it will cause the playback speed to be very unreliable as well as recording is basically not functioning.
PLAYBACK FOR OLDER TAPES: The playback for older tapes has been reliable and functioning. Rewinding and fast-forwarding has worked consistently. I have noticed some playback speed issues occasionally, but I would absolutely attribute this to the cassette player and not the tapes. It's a gamble. I enjoy the aesthetic and fun of having a portable cassette player, so I'll be keeping mine. If you want an actual functional cassette player / recorder I'd strongly suggesting looking at the non-portable ones on this site. (I got audiocrazy).
I really really want this to work. I love the feel and color of this incredibly fun cassette player. Old cassettes work well, at least the 30min-60min tapes. I bought some 90min tapes to make some fun mix tapes, and unfortunately, the motor is just too weak to move the tape rewind or record. If you record, it'll come out very distorted. If you try to rewind it, it'll rewind very sluggishly, stop, try, stop, then just won't keep rewinding. I've tested other tapes with less tape time and it rewinds pretty slowly, plays fine, and fastwards fine.
Please just be aware, this is a very very weak tape player. I would love to keep it, and I'm very much hoping I have a dud, but if the new one still has the same problem, I will sadly have to say goodbye and return it all together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do not take the reviews that claim that the tapes play to quickly/slowly!!
Reviewed in Singapore on May 8, 2020
Anyone who is unsure whether or not to get this cassette player, due to the other reviews claiming that it plays tapes too quickly/slowly, please do not listen to them! The speed can be adjusted(Shown in the first photo) through the hole, use a thin flathead screwdriver! If that does not work, make sure the batteries you are using are new/fully charged! The batteries should also have an output of 1.5V, any higher might shorten the cassette player's lifespan and make the run speed higher. If the tapes are playing slowly no matter how you adjust it, make sure you use new batteries and they should not have a lower output than 1.5V!
I'm glad I ignored the other bad reviews that claimed the player speeds/slows down the tapes! That is total nonsense made by people who have no experience in cassette players or people who have not done the proper/necessary research! If you have any worries/questions, you can consult the people on the Subreddit, r/cassetteculture.
If you wish to not ruin your cassettes, like any other players, DO NOT SWITCH FROM F.FWD TO RWIND TO PLAY. Always use the stop button to stop the action before switching to another.
