Review

The images simmering in the French photographer Cédric Delsaux’s “Dark Lens” series are an unsettling confluence of hyper-real cityscapes, a post-postmodern sense of humor ... and characters from “Star Wars.” (DANA JENNINGS The New York Times)

About the Author

The creator of the "Star Wars" Saga and "Indiana Jones" series, George Lucas is also the critically acclaimed director of American Graffiti and THX 1138, as well as the producer of a myriad of independent films. In 1971, Lucas formed his own film company, Lucasfilm Ltd., in San Rafael, Calif. In 1973, he co-wrote and directed Graffiti, which won the Golden Globe and garnered five Academy Award(R) nominations. Four years later, his Star Wars broke all box-office records and set new standards for sophistication in film visuals and sound. Lucas continued the Star Wars saga as storywriter and executive producer with The Empire Strikes Back in 1980 and Return of the Jedi in 1983. He returned to directing in 1999 with Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace, which was the first major live-action film to be projected digitally. Three years later, Episode II Attack of the Clones broke new ground as the first major movie shot using entirely digital media. In 2005, Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith concluded the live-action Skywalker arc, but Lucas continues to explore the "galaxy far, far away" and his impact on the film industry continues to grow.In the late 1980s, Lucas donated the "Star Wars "story rights toKUSC-FM, the National Public Radio af liate station at his alma mater, the University of Southern California. The result was the Star Wars Original Radio Drama and subsequent "Empire Strikes Back "and "Return of the Jedi" radio dramas

I had the pleasure of seeing some of these gorgeous images in a larger format, in person, at Celebration V (the SW convention in Orlando in 2010). Some of the poster size prints simply leave you stunned. The way Cedric Delsaux seamlessly inserts an aspect from the Star Wars universe into our world is just unbelievably....awesome - for lack of a better, more eloquent word. My favorite has to be the AT-AT walkers (the Imperial military vehicles from the Hoth battle at the beginning of The Empire Strikes Back) looming out of the mist over two deserted elevated freeways/highways. It's eerie and a little terrifying in a 'what if the Empire came to Earth' kind of way. I've been waiting for this book to be published and available since 8/2010 and I can't wait to get my hands on it now that it's out. I only wish I could afford the collectors limited edition signed version. Congratulations, Monsieur Delsaux on an incredible job. If you do more delving into the SW-verse, I will gladly follow.

This book is amazing, the work inside is flawless. Im not sure if its cgi or he shoots the background and subjects separately. But either way it looks amazing. Seeing characters and vehicles from the Star Wars franchise in modern day cities is a beautiful. Im also a professional photographer and the whole book is truly inspiring!

An interesting table book. Some of the images are stunning... other are so so. A bit pricey... I would wait until it drops below $40 to recommend. The book and prints are quality produced. A must for Star Wars fans!

An intriging book of photographs integrating figures and space ships from the Star Wars saga into todays industrial landscapes.

The results are strange views on our world - and in a way the photographs of Delsaux bring Star Wars closer to our reality.

Unfortunately the book is out of print and therefore has its price in the internet.

Yes I am a big Star Wars fan and I am an architect who is interested in photography so it is very natural to admire the photographs of Cedric Delsaux. I saw his photographs three years ago at an exhibiton and although I loved his work it was too much for my budget to acquire one of his photograph. So when this book came out it was a good oppurtunity to get all the prints with reasonable price.

For people who do not know Cedric Delsaux or his photograph series Dark Lens, please visit his website before buying this book. This is solely a photography book consisting of 50 photographs and most of the photos in the book are displayed at his website so you don't get suprised when you buy the book.

It is a pricey book, but it is hard cover,it is good quality print giving attention to each photograph. You can buy the individual prints at much higher price from the galleries that represent the artist or at the closest they made a limited edition print box ( with 100 prints) at over 1000 dollars, so if you are not an art collector but just an admirer of Star Wars or good photography this is a good catch.

A small warning - people who want to buy this book as a gift to younger Star Wars fans should also consider other Star Wars illustrated books as they are more related to the movies then this book which is an art book rather than a film related book.
