My project is making booklets using 10 to 25 sheets of 24 lb paper, and I sometimes need to add or remove sheets. I have used other binding methods which work okay (covers with prongs) but I was looking for an easier way. I had several assorted binding bars from some insurance policies that I tried and they all worked great, so I ordered these C-Line bars because they are supposed to slide on easily and have a 40 sheet capacity. The first thing I noticed about these bars is that the "jaws" are firmly shut tight against each other, whereas the the ones I had found around the house were slightly open. I made up some booklets this weekend of just 12 sheets. I found there was no way to force the sheets into the bars without first prying the bars open with a tool. The sheets by themselves were not stiff enough to open the bars. Unfortunately using a tool required 2 hands, one to hold the bar and one to hold the tool, so my wife had to hold the booklet while I got the bar started a few inches up the edge of the sheets. From there I could slide the bar the rest of the way in the normal fashion. Some of the booklets had plastic covers and some plain paper, but it was equally difficult either way.

These bars just do not work as advertised. Of course I want them tight enough to hold the booklets together, but not so tight that it takes 2 people to get the sheets into them. I don't know if it is a poor design or if they are defective. The first time I used a tool -- a small piece of plastic -- to open the jaws, the plastic of the C-line bar cracked. That is how tight and rigid they are, but I was able to use 10 more of them without cracking. I would have sent them back but didn't feel like it was worth the trouble.

One of the things we do at Sourdoughhome.com is sell cookbooks. At first, we only sold ebooks. Some people wanted them printed, so we needed to find a way to bind them.

At first, we used much more expensive products, because that's what our local office supply house carried. We were running into problems because the clips were really designed for 25 sheet books, and we were well over 30.

At some point we started looking for more cost effective options. One of the things that sold us on the C-Line product is they had several different spines, so we could select an appropriately sized spine for the cookbook we are shipping to our customers. The 34227 is great for up to 60 page documents. Another is good for smaller documents.

Many times people worry what they will give up when they buy a less expensive product. Is the name brand product (which shares my name) really better? We've found the C-Line product to be at least as good as the name brand product, and we're more than happy to pocket the savings!

If we love the product so darn much, why didn't we give it 5 stars? It may not be fair, but at times it is hard to put the spines over the clear plastic report covers, and we wind up cutting the plastic covers. We had the same issue with the name brand product. And since the spines are held in place by friction, I think it's just part of the overall picture - some won't work right. But, it'd be great if the entry to the spine was a little smoother.

Oh - our oddest use for the spines - we lost the blade guard for our bread knife. One of the spines does a great job!

Before purchasing these, I had read several of the reviews by other. Many complained about how difficult they were to put on the pages.

I have not found that to be true. Yes, they are a tight fit, but that is how they hold the pages together, by being a tight fit. If they weren't tight, they wouldn't work.

I found that I could line all my pages up, pry open one corner of the binding bar to start it on the top edge of my pages, then it slides down the length of the pages perfectly.

My project (a film script) is 56 pages total, and the clips are holding and make the script look much more professional than if I had used the typical three-hole punch and brass fasteners.

These are great! I purchased these as business card holders that I cut to size for merchandise displays. Someone else who saw me using them, said they purchased them for protecting the edges of glass shelves that were sharp! This is a great multi-use product that was very reasonable.

I bought these to bind 35 copies of a 21 page report. They are hard to start, but once you get an inch or so of the edge inserted, it's easy enough to slide the rest in. I used a flat plastic handle of a kitchen tool to pry the binder open to get it started over the edge to be bound. It was tedious and time consuming, but the end result was very acceptable. I wouldn't want to try to bind more than 25 pages or so. The price was right, delivery was fast, and I have a lot left over.

Very good clips. Made from thicker material and form a tighter fit on the paper I use. The clips are more substantial than the original clips from Avery which cracked after a while............. plus there are a lot more of them.
A good buy from my perspective.

Be sure that you know what form of media you will be binding. Worked well with aprox 20 pages of laser print, but was almost too small for 10 pages of matte paper. Company makes wider binding bar for larger print jobs which you should be able to purchase through Amazon
