Author, David G.Clark,Ph.d,(Notre Dame University), has made C.S.Lewis' book, The Great Divorce, come alive. For those who found TGD a great read, you will find Dr.Clark's detailed commentary on Lewis' book to provide a rich and in depth insight into the motivations and thinking of each of the personalities (bus riders). You will learn not what heaven is like, but rather why the different characters made their choices to return to the "bus" in the "grey town" (ultimately hell) and to give up their opportunities to follow their spiritual guide up and over the mountains to heaven where the Lord God graciously awaits those who choose his way.

If you have not yet read "The Great Divorce," you will find in Clark's book a brief opening summary for each of the charactors, which means you can understand "C.S.Lewis Goes to Heaven" without first reading Lewis' great book.

All this and a lot more. Dr. Clark, is a recognized C.S.Lewis scholar. He gives us new insights into how others have contributed to Lewis' thinking. Take a trip with Dr. Clark, and you will experience a unique journey!

The classic sequel to The Screwtape Letters is usually unappreciated, largely because it is more challenging to understand. Lewis employs so many literary references, and it is so much more abstract in its setting, that fewer people can follow it. This "Reader's Guide" cuts through that. My only problem was that it requires two book readings in order to be fresh on the Lewis book, and then get the commentary. I think it would have been much more assimilable if the full book could be bound together with this reader's guide.

C.S. Lewis has always been a favorite of mine. I first read this many years ago and gained new insights upon reading it again. Really makes one think about their actions if one truly wants to be Christian. This really gives a different spin on most concepts of Heaven and Hell. I love the Lewis writes, his absolute mastery of the English language, and that you can read this many times and can always find something new.

I definitely recommend the book if you are reading The Great Divorce (very quick read). Lewis writes in a time and language that isn't easily understood by the modern day reader. This guide really captures the behind the scenes details. As Lewis portrays a guide in the actual book of TGD we also need one in his writings, ironically. At least I did.
