Believe me I have tried for many years to buy and use a leather punch that was constructed like a pair of pliers. I hadn't had any such luck until I met a person who said he owned a good punch that was probably just what I was looking for. In the past, the punches anyone could buy at most local stores were not up to the task. The handles would bend easily and the punch just wouldn't go through the leather to complete the hole, or the final project. The tool I borrowed was the C.S. Osborne RPO-06 6 Tubes Revolving Punch. After a few minutes of using this tool, I had to have one. That's when I found it on AMAZON.COM
It was worth every penny I paid for it. There is even replacement parts there if needed. From now on, if I need a tool that I cannot find anywhere else, I'm sure I will find it at AMAZON.COM The Revolving Punch is built to do the job the first time and it's built to last. There is no substitute for QUALITY.

This item worked great! Not sure why there are some bad reviews. I bought this to punch holes in leather to make a mask and it did it's job. I bought one of those cheapo ones from the local craft store and that was crap. You get what you pay for

Having bought a hole punch set, dealing with that mess, buying a hand leather punch at the store (15$ model) and going through another mess, I decided to give this one a try and see if it really does work like a tool is supposed to, needless to say -- it does. I tested every hole because of the bad reviews I saw and thought "I should just check them all to be sure", I, of course, use a piece of fabric from old shirts folded up as a 'cushion' to the bottom. I have some belief that this may be the case with most punches failing. Or they just have bad construction.

This one does need a bit of leverage, I've found that with heavy duty hand tools like these, often it's best to use the punch flat with most of the leverage on the upper handle. Pushing down is a lot easier than squeezing -- work smarter, not harder.

All in all, I'd say with the capabilities of replacing the hole punches when they become dull whenever, for a mere 30$. Some good oil and care when using should ensure long use. If you're in the leathercraft for the long haul, consider this investment.

I’ve owned the inexpensive Osborne 223 punch for many years and decided to splurge and buy the more expensive 155 punch (aka the Osborne RPO 06, the model I’m reviewing) under the assumption it would work better and last longer.

The first 155 I received had a bad #4 punch. The cutting edge was pretty bent up. I was very impressed with the supplier who replaced it immediately. The second one works fine but actually not as well as my 223 punch. To make my product I have to cut holes through two layers of 9 oz. vegetable tanned leather. The new 155 doesn’t cut all the way through and I have to turn the piece over to finish the hole. The old 223 cuts right through no problem.

Given that the 155 is in the $60+ price range and the 223 is about $14 (on Amazon), not sure I would recommend the 155. I’ve had my 223 for over 3 years and I use it a lot. It still works well.

In fairness, I can’t speak to the long-term durability of the 155 and the individual punches are replaceable. But, I can buy two or three 223 punches for about the price of a replacement set of punches for the 155 (roughly).

Anyway, I’m going to keep the 155 now that I have it. It’s at least a very fine looking tool. Pretty sure I wouldn’t have bought it in the first place had I known what I know now.

Well made, heavy duty, has worked well on English and Western tack, work belts and tool belts. Far better then any other revolving punch I have used. I'd pay the high price for it again.

Another overbuilt, overpriced great tool from Osborne. A user tool not a pretty collectors tool. The Best of the best. You get what you pay for. Enjoy
