This book is for developers of any level that want to find a lot of interesting things about C#. The chapters are not related to each other and can be easily read again when needed.
I really liked:
- chapter 1 on Parallel Extensions: clear and coincise
- chapter 3 where the great (I love this tool) Visual NDepend is described in good detail
- chapter 5 on async programming with different approaches to the subject
- chapter 6 on dynamic programming where I discovered Expando object I was unaware of
- chapter 9 with the a perfect and coincise description of Microsoft IL
- chapter 10 with its introduction to Roslyn CTP

12 chapters full of great topics that can be very helpful in your day by day adventure in C#

The book is nice and I would definitely recommend it for others to read too. Its small yet discusses nice modern topics. Id wanted to see more details on subjects. Just linq alone could have been given more attention. I thought that the book will be smth like hybrid of "c# in depth" and "effective c#", but it appeared different. The chapters are completely independent yet every chapter has its topic and stays near it. When I was reading them the impression was like I was reading blog articles and not a book. Don't know if its good or bad.. I liked that author mentions some tools and technics for simplifying everyday programming tasks. He also gives some nice and simple advices about architecture. But still..The book is too small to go into details. Too little information about every aspect in every chapter. So that if you are interested in linq - read the book devoted to it, IOC - read another one, architecture and coding practices - "code complete" and so on.. Don't think that this book is for complete novices, because almost all topics discussed in it are needed in some specific situations. The book can be used to widen your own c# knowledge horizons. So that after reading it in 2-3 days you can gain some basic knowledge about technic and if you really need in deep understanding-than find some specialized tutorials or books.

I met Filip at a conference in 2011, where he bought a copy of my book, and he kindly sent me a copy of his this year. C# Smorgasbord contains 12 self contained chapters which dip into topics the average .NET developer may not have thought about looking at, and really shows off the new additions in C# 4.5. He covers the new background thread enhancements, creating code at runtime, dynamic objects and Iron Python and even Roslyn, the compiler as a service. Filip doesn't limit himself to just the Microsoft tools either, he covers other productivity tools like Resharper and nDepend.

I've always enjoyed technical books where you can pick them up, read a topic and not have to worry about having read the previous chapters. This book follows that pattern and does it extremely well - giving you enough on each topic to get you going, but avoids overwhelming you with the small details that you don't need to know to get productive.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, which I read in a mere 4 hours as it was such an easy/fluent read. The author has done an excellent job of explaining some of the more difficult concepts in C#. I specifically liked the chapters on dynamic programming and async/await functionality.

This books is not for someone who is interested in learning C# as it is not a C# reference manual.

I will definitely recommend this book to friends.

This is not a bible of C# but as the title say a lot of related technologies to c#.
The best thing is that the chapters are not related to each other and can be easily read again when need.
When I finish to read this book I understood a lot of things that wasn't clear before!

In particular I realy appreciate:

Chapter 1 on Parallel Extensions
Chapter 5 Asynchronous programming
Chapter 8 Exploring Reflection
Chapter 10 Adapting Inversion of Control
Chapter 12 About Moking

The book's 12 chapters provide a great overview of their topic, explain the concepts very well so that even new programmers will be able to understand. The examples are fun and engaging, not only helping Filip make his point but drawing the reader in. My only "complaint" is that after reading the book I now will have to go learn about some of the topics in more detail from someone else.
