These snips, however, have a more conventional design with the blades meeting flush to one another. They cut wonderfully right at the tip, as well as further back on the blade.
These are not as well-made as the Xuron, but the build quality is decent for the price (although you want to wait for a price dip - they are a good value at around the $8 or less range). The handles are plastic coated, and there's a spring that keep the blades in the open position. The spring seems rather weak and made some creaking, squeaking noises at first. A bit of lube cured that pretty well.
I use this mainly for wick and wire trimming when rebuilding atomizers, so the heaviest wire I cut is 28 gauge (and usually 30 to 34). Snips through those effortlessly. I'm especially pleased with how it cuts silica wick cleanly with no fraying at the ends. As long as what you want to cut is a thin guage wire, these will do the trick.
If you don't need cutting action at the tip take a look at the Xuron. Otherwise, these are a great choice for a value set of flush cutters with the ability to cut right at the tip of the blade.
It is a great tool for people who don't do a lot of punch-down work and could benefit from something to hold the keystone jack steady. More seasoned network installation techs may not bother, but I have learned that even some of them prefer to work with a puck when punching down keystone jacks.
Monoprice Cat5e Punch Down Keystone Jack - White Compared to RJ45 clips, keystone jacks are not cheap and you may not have enough in your tool kit to risk ruining one. Get a Punch-down puck! It will pay for itself in a short time.
The finish looks a bit rough, but that is easily forgiven considering how inexpensive they are and how well they work. Mine also did not cut at the hinge, but they are not meant for that. Use ordinary cutters for cutting wire, these are meant for cutting wires off flush with the surface of PCBs and you do only use the ends for that.
I cannot yet say how hard-wearing they are, but I would not advise trying to cut high-tensile steel like piano wire or steel guitar strings. I think that might damage the cutting edges, leaving a hole where the edges are supposed to meet. I had to buy a special pair of cutters for steel wire. Usually these smaller cutters are rated only for cutting soft metals like copper and aluminum wires.
I used to work on electronics and had a similar pair, and this one works just as good. I would defiantly buy this rather than the others that are build much cheaper. Hope this helps someone trying to compare and buy.
