The manufacturer’s video shows that it comes with double-stick tape and it gives the impression that the tape will hold it flat. It won’t. Even if the tape did hold it flat, who would want to put double-stick tape on a hardwood or vinyl floor? And if you have carpeting, no way it would hold.
The thickness of the material is one of the things I like about it but it is also what gives it the unmanageable curl. I tried hanging it from the furnace room ceiling for several days. The curls did not budge.
So, I did what others suggest. And you follow/use these instructions at your own risk. As seen in photo 1, I uncurled it (mine is 15 feet) into a large sink. This was not easy since it does not want to uncurl. You can see in the lower right that the product is trying to re-curl. Leaving the stopper out, I ran the hot water until it was as hot as it would get. I then turned off the water, put in the stopper and then ran the hot water until it covered the protector. I then boiled 3 quarts of water and carefully poured it into the sink. (In hindsight, I don’t think I needed to add the boiling water.) I then let it sit for 15 minutes because you need to let the heat penetrate completely through the thick material. As you can see in photo 2, the curl in lower right is gone. I then used needle nosed pilers to put out the stopper. After the water drained, with gloved hands, I picked up one end and slowly raised it so that the water inside the protector would drain out the other end into the sink. Once out, I then laid it flat on flooring where residual moisture would not damage the flooring. In my case, it was a concrete floor. I then placed a heavy weight on each end (see photo 3) since it is the ends where it would want to re-curl. I did not place any weights in the middle. I left the weights on until the product totally cooled to room temperature. After I removed the weights, it was perfectly flat and I was able to install, as seen in photo 4.

The only issue. The adhesive (aka nothing but packing scotch tape..) is not that great. In retrospect/next time, I will use 3m adhesive. Something that will keep the cover down but not rip the floor up.
