Don't buy this for your kick drum, buy it for your bass amplifier. In recording sessions, I have often auditioned a large number or mics on bass guitar amp and every time, this mic smokes anything else I have. Sounds big and gutsy right from the first note, before you have even touched the EQ.

You MUST try this on bass amp!!! Easily 5 stars in this application.

Amazing mic, tested side by side with the AKG D112. While this one is a little more difficult to dial in without clipping, it sounds every bit as good as the AKG at least when you're looking for a modern slightly processed bass drum tone.

Perhaps the CAD has a lower mass diaphragm perhaps or isn't filtered as much so it's a bit more lively in my experience making it difficult to crank up to the same volume levels without clipping. Might actually be advantageous for getting a more pure acoustic tone. I play modern rock/funk/metal and am looking for a more processed punchy tone so I personally might prefer the AKG which I can more easily dial in the punchy modern bass drum sound at higher levels in my mix without clipping.

On a higher quality mixer with a good preamp you can likely get identical tones from this mic as much more expensive units but out of the box directly into a basic mixer you can tell some difference in volume. Much better value for money comparatively so I give it 5 stars.

After our bass drum mic in our kit broke I wanted to find something else so we could continue recording. I decided on this one after reading the awesome reviews. I must say this mic has exceeded my expectations. Straight out of the box I was able to get a great bass drum sound. I seriously had to do no EQ modifications. It also sounds really good when I mic the bass amp with it. Don't miss this one.

It gives a pretty nice Bass drum sound. I wish it would automatically knock out those higher notes, but I guess some people like to hear the highs in their bass drum. The problem I have with leaving this un equalized is that it picks up sounds from the hi-hat and other cymbal over it. With a little tuning from the mixer side I was able to get that out and I am satisfied with the overall sound.

I bought this for the occasional bass drum miking. The first time I used it I was sort of meh. The second time I used it with a different bass drum I was blown away at the whomp of this thing. So the lesson is, if the bass drum sounds good so will the mic.

I have just been using an SM57 for the kick mic up until now. This CAD mic is a really great upgrade for me. My first recordings with it were so much more deep and punchy than from the SM57. For less than $40 I can't imagine anything will beat this mic for kicks.

I bought two of these mics to use for my floor toms on my drum set, and I was blown away by how good they were. With very little EQ, I got the floor toms sounding better than they ever have before. I'd imagine they would be great for a bass drum too. If you're looking for a really punchy and low end tom sound, these are absolutely the best choice

This thing is as advertised, a great value, and a decent sound. It is definitely muddy and not very clear, but for the price it is excellent. Perfect for a non-professional or semi-pro gigging band like mine.
