Top customer reviews
At first I brought out the glow ring, bracelets, necklaces and all was ok, there was still peace.
Then I brought the box of 40 Cade Super Bright Finger Flashlights and at first gave a few to each kid. Then word started to spread and next thing I remember I am being swarmed by gangs of sugar high 3-8 year old kids yelling colors, pushing, grabbing, dancing, laughing, raving... it was horrible. I eventually just threw them up in the air so I could escape.
- They are super-bright
- Held on by a rubberband so they fit everyone
- On/Off Switch
- Kids go crazy for them
- Won't go on the fingers of younger kids without help
- The Green ones seemed to die very fast (could just be an anomaly)
In the end, these things were great and next time I am buying at least 2x as much
There are several things I really like about these, and one reason why I would not give them five stars:
-AFFORDABILITY: These are affordable (less than $8 when I purchased them) for the quantity that you get. They are approximately 20 cents a piece, which is a great deal. As I am not using them for a party or anything and instead just bringing a few out at a time to play, these will last for some time just be sheer quantity. For that, the price was worth it.
-MOST WORK: When I was thinking of purchasing these, I read many other reviews. Some complained that they had a lot of these Super Bright Finger Flashlights that did not work. That was not my experience, but with the way they come packaged (original packaging, not the shipper packaging), I could see things coming loose in shipping. I only had two that did not work. One looked broken open and the other just did not turn on. All the rest worked fine.
-LONG-LASTING: The battery life on these is pretty good. I left one on over night just to test, and it was still shining about 9 hours later. It did not last through rest of the next day, but I did not see exactly what time the batteries finally died. No--the batteries cannot be (easily) replaced, and I am guessing replacement batteries would cost more than one of these would new. Considering that the average user will not have them turned on for 10+ hour stretches, I would say that these last plenty long. As they are advertised for raves, if that is what you want them for bring a few extra and put them in your pockets with the menthol rub and pacifier (is that what still happens at raves?).
-BREAK SOMEWHAT EASILY: My one beef with them, and why I did not give them a 5-star rating is that many of them break easily. The band that holds the lights to your fingers is connected to the light via a fairly flimsy bit of plastic. That part can break or the band just comes loose from time to time. You can see this in the pictures. Sometimes you can get them back on, but the gap tends to be uneven. If the band falls off once, it is likely to do so again. You can still carry the light around, which my kid does, but if you wanted them on your hands that would not really work. Also, for some of them, the tips with the color filter in them fall off. That is easy to put back on when you find them. Again, we are talking 20 cents each here.
These are fun lights, affordable, and last a long time. While they do break somewhat easily, they have not stopped us from having plenty of fun with them.
UPDATE: When you completely screw up on a jack-o-lantern like I did (yep, it was bad), these things make cool effects (see pictures). They would work even better with good jack-o-lanterns.
AND they also make great 'fetch' toys for dogs at night--you need only put a lit-up light in a transparent small plastic soda bottle and toss it for your dog to fetch--or, that is, for YOU to fetch in case your dog is like mine, meaning she can't be bothered to fetch a toy you've thrown. ["Hey, human owner-of-me, YOU'RE the one who threw it, NOT ME. So YOU go 'fetch it."]
But those lights in transparent/translucent small soda bottles are fun for kids to toss around outside in the dark, too. You may have to tape down the on/off button, though, so the light won't keep turning itself down as the bottle is tossed.
ONE OTHER THING. When I misplace my flashlight and need to walk the dog after dark, the little white lights are great to have around--or to tuck in my purse in case I'm walking somewhere at night and realize I need some extra illumination. That's why I give the kids and the dogs the colored lights but keep the clear white ones for myself. I love these things.
