Let me start off with my cat absolutely loves the deluxe version of this toy. She goes crazy for it, and the four speeds are nice.

Now for the bad part. There is no timer, it does not automatically shut off. The battery usage is crazy. There is no plug in option. Its not durable (My cat catches the mechanism, so now everytime there is a grinding noise when it starts to spin).

As much as my cat loves this toy, it is not durable and I would not buy it again. It has a life expectency of about a week. This one is ready for the trash. I would not recommend this product.

When I purchased the cat meow the reviews stated that the only issue was batteries. I find that to be a minor issue as you can always get rechargeable batteries. The speed allows the cat to catch the “mouse” and stop the movement. After about two week the motor was dead and the toy became usless. This was a total waste of money I wish I could return it as defected. I would NOT recommend.

My cat has become absolutely addicted to this thing. I opened it up, put the batteries in, threw the skirt on, sat it down on the floor and pushed the button. She eyed it cautiously for ten seconds, then pounced. She played with it for an hour straight before I felt the need to put it away for her own good. She kept meowing for it, though, and I couldn't resist giving it back to her.

It's been a struggle. She's taken up with some unsavory types and is now behind on rent. We've asked her to watch her problem and have held two interventions, but she won't give it up. We've made it pretty clear that it's her life, but for the sake of her future and the sake of those around her that care for her, she has to give it up. If nothing else, she has to admit she has a problem; that's when recovery will start. I'll hopefully come back with another update on that, but, for now, I'll just continue on with the review.

The product seems sturdy and the sound is only slightly irritating at the higher speeds. You mostly hear the sound of the ball rubbing against the skirt, not the motor itself. My cat seems to love it and, although she's cowered at the sounds of motorized products before, has no problem with this at all. I would warn that it could be intimidating to some cats, though. I'd recommend starting it on slow and sitting with them until they become comfortable with it. I'm absolutely happy with the product and would recommend it to anyone.

UPDATE: This thing has already become useless. It moves at a fraction of the speed it used to, can't operate with the blanket on top of it and now emits a loud squeaking sound with every turn. I plan on popping it open to see what I can do so that my ten bucks didn't just buy a week's worth of cat pleasure. I'll post an update, but, unless you plan on doing the same, or are happy with a week-long endeavor, steer clear of this thing.

I bought 4 of the Cat's Meows toys and gave 3 away. Mine only lasted 1 week before the arm pretty much stopped moving. I changed the batteries thinking that was the problem but it wasn't. I am calling customer service on Monday to see if they will do anything. From my experience, even though my cats loved it, I wouldn't waste my money

My cat absolutely loves this toy. It is so well designed. Varying speeds. I think it automatically shuts off after a few minutes of non use. Looks like a mouse tail. She loves going under the yellow cover. She can't resist it when I turn it on.

It's a good idea but, like so many other good ideas, the implementation missed the mark a bit (for production cost concerns, I'm sure). My cat loved playing with it from the first moment, but within three days the yellow skirt literally began coming apart at the seams. I notified Cat's Meow and they sent me two completely free replacements. After four days of use the replacement started to come apart in the same way. I have a very healthy small cat that still has his claws. I assumed that the claws were the problem and had a friend make a new skirt using some canvas material I had in the garage (using the original flimsy nylon as a pattern). It's been weeks now and there is no sign of wear on the skirt. The next modification will be to go to Radio Shack and get an inexpensive transformer so that the toy can be plugged into the wall outlet, then I wont have to be putting batteries in it every three days.

Toy is good , but if cat sits on thing that goes around , which my cat does . then it just wears battery out and no play . I recommend this toy for kittens and younger cats . as I found older cats know how to catch and hold fake mouse tail .

Bought mine at Ross for $5. Today is day 1 using it. For the first few minutes my cat hissed at it but then he LOVED it. The "slow" speed is pretty darn fast. I'm not expecting this to last more than a week due to all the reviews on here. People on here say their cat got bored with it, but cats get bored with anything used on a daily basis. I say put it away for a week and then bring it back out.
