The only thing that actually disappointed me was the “cat” in CATastroiphic Connections. Yes, I know this is an introductory book, but if CAT is in the title, why don’t we read more about it? I was looking forward to reading more cat interactions. I didn’t expect it to wear a ninja bandana and carry a knife to protect its owner. But please, give me more in the second book!
Each chapter begins with an interesting quote from a famous mystery sleuth such as Agatha Christy or Sherlock Holmes. My favorite quote follows: "No one ever owns a cat...You share a common habitation on a basis of equal rights and mutual respect, although somehow, the cat always comes out ahead of the deal." (Lillian Jackson Braun - modern day cat mystery writer.
I loved the change-up in the setting between Kansas and the Virgin Islands. It just seemed Beth and her husband were a bit too ready to book a flight and pop on a plane to St. Thomas in order to investigate the whereabouts of their step-niece. Such a generous gesture!
Other than that, there were plenty of suspects and possible scenarios to keep the reader guessing, and the ending tied everything up nicely. I enjoyed the quotes from various famous mysteries at the beginning of each chapter, and the interspersing of very short chapters with longer ones to keep me reading. And finally, there was just enough cat presence for me.
A promising start to a new cozy series.
I bought and read the second one first, not paying attention. So I looked for this one immediately and found he truly lives up to his name. I wish just one of three of the four cats I reside with would do the things Psycho does (4th exempt because he's blind). I am distressed he no longer has front claws.
I loved the beginning of each chapter had a quote from very famous detectives and/or writers, each complimentary to the chapter.
I hope for more!
