The range in an open room is about 15 feet. Any walls/doors and that killed the signal.
I tested them on 60 minute bike ride, 60 min run, 60 min on an elliptical and a 60 minute walk.
I started with the ride first. The sound was great no wind noise using the buttons vol up/down pause/play was i little odd but with practice it would be fine. The only real issue here is the advanced track by holding vol up. That isn't the best while riding; however a proper play list and that solves that issue. The signal quality is HORRIBLE. I kept my phone in my front pocket and it skipped every minute and if it turned my head. Music is on the device. I put the phone in my backpack same issue.
It doesn't get better while I ran, elliptical or walked. It was so bad that while I was using the elliptical i took my phone out of my pocket and placed on the shelf. Then it worked fine. Walking was the same thing, unless I held my phone it skipped every minute. The signal completely cut out if i put my hand in my pocket with my phone.
These work great as long as the device in the open. I needed to use this while my phone was my pocket or my backpack which is why I rated it 2 stars instead of 1. The battery at least lasted 5 hours so that's a positive.
I used a pair of Jaybird X2 for reference. I had no issues with signal issues with Jaybird. Unfortunately, my ears do not work well with that style of bud which is why i was looking at the over the ear style buds.
Buying this product is an experience. As soon as you open the package from Amazon, you unveil the phenomenal packaging for the earbuds. The packaging really says something about a company, and CB3 knows exactly what they are doing. The way I see it, the more creative and intuitive packaging, the more I can trust the product. It shows that the company took some time to develop accurate dimensions and you'd honestly think the packaging was done by Apple. But better. Seriously. I fell in love with the headphones just by looking at their packaging, but that's not why you're reading this. You want to know how the headphones feel, operate, and what they sound like. I'll give a breakdown of how I would rate the product over certain categories.
I have included a summary at the end, if you're interested in that instead.
For sound quality, I would rate these a 9/10. I'm not sure how big the speaker drivers are, but they are very precise and accurate. I'm a bit of an audiophile and I can't use headphones or earbuds that have a flat or muddy sound. These wireless earbuds are the opposite. The sound quality is very crisp with a great high and mid-range, plus a deep low range. These aren't extremely bass heavy, but don't take that the wrong way. The bass offered is amazing, it's not enough to pound your eardrums out and give you headaches. I wish the low end was a tiny bit deeper, but I can't complain with it because these are a great value for their $40 price point.
For the overall volume, I would say they could be louder, so I would give these a 9/10. On my iPhone 6s, I turned the Sound Check off and turned off the Audio Level limit. I had my music playing at 90% or 100% of the max volume, and I really wish I could go up to 120% of what it is now - just for when I'm mowing the lawn or whatever might be a bit louder than the typical gym session or casual work day. The max volume is enough to drown out a vacuum and it's actually a comfortable listening level. The thing that I do like about the volume cap is that it would basically be impossible to blow out the speakers in them, so that increases product longevity. My old daily wired Audio Techinca earbuds didn't have a level cap on them and I've nearly gone deaf multiple times by accidentally having the volume set at 100% and starting the music. Not to mention the multiple times I've blown speaker drivers on those Audio Technical earbuds on accident. So I'm glad the CB3 Fit Sport headphones don't have this issue. That's a big plus in my book.
I bought the red/gray color scheme and they're labeled to have a microphone (I'm not sure if the other color schemes have this). I did a test with my phone under a pile of clothes and standing 20+ feet away in another room and my roommate said the audio quality was still perfect. We swapped and I listened. The voices sound crisp and you'd never know it was over bluetooth.
The product quality is pretty great for $40. I'll rate it an 8/10 only because the responsiveness of the volume buttons on the right earbud were a little weak. I really like the fact that you can hold the - button to skip backwards and the + button to skip forwards. However I found myself constantly clicking the volume + or - buttons more times than I needed to for the volume to get where I wanted it. For reference, I had to hit the button 25 times to go from 0% to 100% on the Music player on my iPhone 6s. It’s a little irritating and so much quicker to hit the Volume Up button on your phone if it’s close by. The casings of the headphones are plastic, but they're very sturdy. The cable is about 18 inches long and I thought it would be annoying to touch the back of my neck, but I really didn't notice it. The ear wings are a plastic as well, and they don't bend too much. I'm glad they're not silicone because they would irritate your ears over time. They seemed difficult to get on the first few times, just because it's a little awkward to hook it around your ear and put the earbud in with a fluid motion. Although I feel like the cord should also come in a shorter version, maybe about 8 inches, I can’t really complain that much. I would have preferred if the cable sat on the back of my head with a little bit of slack, rather than dangling over the back of my neck. And it doesn’t look like the company offers anything yet that can shorten the cable. The JayBirds Bluebuds X headphones did this feature really well and it’s something I wish CB3 would have offered as an option.
Comfort/Ability to Stay in Ears:
For comfort and Ability to Stay in Ears, I'll give them a 10/10. I have smaller ears and I always had problems with other wireless earbuds, specifically the JayBirds Bluebuds X I’ve mentioned before, but the CB3 Fit Sports don't bother me. They come with 3 different sized ear pieces, all a silicone texture which helps them stay in your ears. I kept the middle sized ones on and haven't had any issues! I didn’t have them fall out of my ears once during a two hour weight training and cardio session, nor when I was wearing them at the office.
For battery life, I'll rate these a 8/10. With a projected 7-hour listening battery life, there's not a whole lot to complain about. Plus theres around 160 hours of standby battery, so they could sit for about a week without losing their full charge. I will say that I've seen other bluetooth earbuds with longer battery life, but their price was a lot higher and some of those earbuds had a battery pack attached to the cable where the power would be stored. I'm glad that the CB3 Fit Sport Wireless Earbuds have the batteries (and charger port) within the earbuds themselves.
The connection range on these headphones is very similar to others. I'll rate it a 9/10 because they worked a lot better than some Bluetooth devices I have, but it's not perfect. I had my cell phone in my pocket and if I went to do a push-up, there would be a slight connection loss if the phone was touching the ground and my leg at the same time, as if it were being suffocated. It only happened twice during the workout, but that's probably something you can expect with any Bluetooth device. Also, I live in a brick house and I surprisingly maintained connection through one brick wall, but not for a long distance. On the interior, I could make it nearly to the opposite side of my house without losing any connection, but as soon as I walked around the third wall in between the headphones and my phone, that's when it lost most of the connection. Coverage is pretty great, a lot of people complain about the bluetooth coverage and I haven’t had any issues.
These headphones are AMAZING, especially for the $40 price range. Overall I would give them a 9/10. There's a few things here and there that I would personally prefer differently, but all of these factors were minor and the price point for these features is incredible. I would recommend you buy a pair of these first before trying anything else.
The sound quality is GREAT, especially for the price. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they actually sound better than my previous earbuds (Titus Audio Symphony Line Sopra Active Earbuds with Inline Microphone and Noise Isolation).
The only qualm I have is that the battery life could be better. I get about 5-5.5 hours of use before it needs a charge, which is not terrible but it could be better.
Overall I am very happy with this purchase! For the price, I don't think you can beat them.
