Again, I'm a on-and-off hobbyist, I'm by no means a professional or even experienced in this field of music tech. But for my means, connecting my Scarlett 2i4 to two instrument mics, these cables are working fantastically with no issues at all.
Due to the combined rust of not playing guitar much and not using my DAW lately, I've yet to record anything that won't make listeners grimace, but listening to my guitar tone through my monitors, I'm liking the tone I'm getting and as far as my ears can tell, these cables aren't negatively affecting my tone in any way.
So while I can't speak for the reliability/clarity of these cables from a professional point of view, as a home studio hobbyist these work fine for me, and their price makes them accessible to folks that may want to try mic recording but don't want to spend a lot on the essentials without compromising quality.
This cord has unexpectedly failed after 3 years of very light indoor studio use. The one I compared it to was the Pyle, and it is still working. I don't know if this is because it got used more or not, but considering how light my usage was I did decide to knock a star off - primarily because the other XLR cords I got all still work and they are also inexpensive. Not trying to be too hard on the little guy, I know I can't expect much for $5, but hey when your competition is doing better than you, that means you have room to grow. It was a bit sudden, I actually thought it was my mic or soundboard so I was very pleased when I discovered it was just the XLR cord that had gone out. There was no warning, and it didn't seem to matter the amount of twisting I tried to do to get static or anything out of it. This was with a phantom powered mic tho, so maybe with a passive mic I would have gotten some static or something.
***END***
I got this XLR cord along with a second one that was similarly priced. I didn't know which to get, needed 2, and figured I would take the opportunity to figure out which is better.
The other cord I got was the Pyle PPFMXLR15 15 Feet XLR Male to XLR Female Microphone Cable.
This cord is longer, and the cord and connectors seem to be more durable and stout. I also have noticed it seems to stay latched in better than the Pyle cord.
Overall this cord in every way was a better cord, but it's still a budget XLR cord. The ends don't look serviceable if they develop a short/open, and the cord isn't quite as thick or lay as flat as my expensive cords. That's to be expected though. This works exceptionally well for booming which is why I got it.
The cord itself is sturdy, but the parts that connect the plugs to the cable are just sort of thick plastic.
You should spend the extra few bucks for a higher quality cable like a Shure brand cable.
If you are in a pinch for $$, like I was when I made this purchase. You wont be disappointed at the $ to quality value of this product. It is hard to find a better price for this length anywhere online. I'm sure a 2nd hand store or music store going out of business would have it cheaper and better made, but those are hard to find. As music stores are going the way of specialized product support, as places like Amazon and musicians friend take over their business.
Cheap and likely, Chinese made.
