I don't write a lot of reviews....however...for $20 this product just doesn't work..I was using it for french fries at 375 and it never reached temperature all the digital number went blurry. I was really disappointed because now I had to get out my oven temperature gauge and start all over again.. really Amazon for the money this was the first time I used it for frying...God only know what would happen if I tried to use it for candy? Past the return date so I guess it just goes in the garbage...which I am very unhappy about... Now I will just buy the "old" tried and true kind.
Bummer, I would never recommend this product.

I've been too prideful about my candy making skills to buy a thermometer for too long! I humbled myself, researched all the thermometers on Amazon, and picked this one. I've always made toffee and fudge at Christmas time, and I've been wasteful and thrown away stuff that cooked too long or not enough (only occasionally) and I kept saying to myself that a good cook doesn't need a thermometer! But, since I purchased this I'm an even better candy chef! It feels more like O-Chem lab at university, and my results are predictable, I love it! I recommend this one because it covers a large range of temperatures and the preset stages are nice reminders of your temp goals. Also, it is adjustable to fit many different pan heights. I really like it :)

This is a pretty good thermometer. I test it from time to time in ice water and it is within 2 degrees F and gets there pretty quickly. The pot clip will make a nice addition to your trash can. I also have a more expensive digital candy thermometer which is even more accurate, but takes up to 10 minutes to read the correct temperature so I took the pot clip off of it and put it on this thermometer.

I just wanted to give an update. I bought this about 1 1/2 years ago and it is still pretty accurate. Unfortunately the LCD display can't handle the heat. When I get over about 240 F it gets harder and harder to read. Maybe I can set up the beeps to let me know where I am. I have had a huge amount of trouble finding a good candy thermometer. I have a Javelin Pro instant read thermometer that so far is great at reading temperature, but you have to hold it. I just bought a Winco candy thermometer that has a great pot clip and stays out of the way in the pot, but guessing is more accurate than the thermometer.

I have been using a cheap, ruler style candy thermometer but I was hoping to upgrade to a digital thermometer for accuracy and also so I could set an alarm to give me a little freedom from babysitting sugar mixtures on the stove. Well, this was a really poor purchase. To test a thermometer, you pop it in boiling water and at sea level it should read 212 degrees. Well, I'm at about 5,000 feet elevation so obviously it's going to be a lower temp due to atmospheric pressure. At my elevation, it should have been reading about 202 degrees Fahrenheit. Instead, it was at 194. That's an equivalent of being at 9,500 feet above sea level! So yeah, it's horribly off and the alarm goes off before the temp you have set anyway. I set it to go off at 250 and it started going off at 245 degrees. When cooking sugar for any candy recipe, just a few degrees can make the difference between a perfect result and ruined ingredients.

Basically, spend a fraction of the price on a cheap ruler style which, when tested was spot on!

I used this digital thermometer to make soft caramels. I usually only make one batch a year, around Christmas, because I am used to using the cheap glass thermometer from Walmart. What a difference this one made! The thermometer was accurate within 2 degrees F, as the caramels came out at almost the perfect consistency that I wanted. The digital display was incredibly easy to read, and the plate located below the display piece kept the steam from fogging up the screen. With the glass thermometer I was used to squinting and wiping the tube down every 2 seconds, so this was exciting! I think I even laughed a bit while making my caramels. My husband even noticed the ease at which I was operating. I couldn't help but to take pictures and send them to my mother, insisting that she MUST buy one since she always makes caramels and other candies around the holidays.

One worry I did have was if the clamp would scrape up the side of my pan. It does look cheap and a little sharp around the edges. But even with the constant stirring, the thermometer stayed in one place and the clamp did not leave any marks. I would encourage anyone who's on the fence about buying this product to try it out. It definitely was not a waste of money. Now I actually look forward to the next time that I get to make caramels!

I don't do reviews on reciept of items unless they're nothing like ordered, otherwise what is the point "I ordered it, it arrived and was what I ordered". Most importantly for me is the longevity of the item and this has failed almost 12 months from the date I recieved it. The thermometer is no longer working. I have replaced the batteries with no success. So, it worked for 12 months and worked fine, I did end. Up wantingfor an alarm as the temperature dropped to a certain point but it worked fine. Now it has stopped working and I won't be replacing it with the same item as I don't aspire to being someone who buys stuff to throw away and replace without any regard for the wider impact.

A very good thermometer if the parts it came with lasted. The thermometer itself is very good with an easy selection of the type of fudge, toffee etc you are making with a nice alert when it’s getting close to temperature and another when it reaches it.

However the metal clip snapped within a month and the chrome protector which protects the thermometer from the heat will not stay in place without the clip.

Also when the clip wasn’t broken still found it hard to keep it in a low enough position for it to keep the temperature gauge from touching the bottom of the pan.

The thermometer is fairly accurate, I put it into a pan of water & brought it up to the boil, it was just under the 100deg C when the water was boiling. What really concerns me is that it is so difficult to clean. I wanted it to test the temperature of fudge. The fudge gets in around the tube at the base of the thermometer and there it stays even though I put the thermometer into a pan of boiling water to try to get it out. How can something which is sold as suitable for making sweets be so poorly designed? Needless to say I'm not using it .
