Charity O'Connell is left alone after her father dies. Unfortunately he gambled away all they had and left her nothing so she takes in laundry from the miners in order to survive. Along with the laundry, she receives numerous proposals of marriage. Then Charity saves a little girl from being trampled by a horse and her father, Gabriel Williams, asks Charity to be his wife. They agree that the marriage will be in name only and when spring comes they can have it annulled and go their separate ways. But will they want to? As Gabriel and Charity work together caring for the children, building a house and facing a formidable foe, by the name of Amos Jenkins, their feelings for each other begin to grow. Will they ever be honest with each other about how they feel? Can the Lord teach them that His grace is sufficient and that His strength is made perfect in weakness?

I love stories that have a 'marriage of convenience' theme to them. I enjoy watching the transformation of 'need' grow into 'want'. Charity's Gold Rush is no exception. The author keeps you entertained from beginning to end. Sometimes I got a little frustrated that Charity and Gabe couldn't admit their feelings for each other. But if we're honest, I'm guessing that a lot of us would be the same way. I enjoyed Charity's spunk and thought she really added a spark to the story. Gabe was a great guy but had a little trouble expressing himself. Amos Jenkins was an interesting 'bad guy'. The author wrote him in such a way that I found myself vacillating between 'not liking him' to 'feeling sorry' for him. I must admit, I normally don't feel sorry for the villain, so I felt that was good writing to be able to do that.

I enjoyed this book! It was a light read, but at the same time I felt great connection to the characters. It is also extremely clean - yes, it has Chrisitian elements, but it's not preachy, and you can enjoy it regardless of your personal beliefs. If you like historical, clean romantic fiction, this is a good choice.

Charity O'Connell is alone in Virginia City, Montana after her father died in a gold mine collapse; she earns her living doing laundry for miners. She is a good Christian girl that is alone in the west after coming from Ireland to America with her parents who are now both dead.

Gabe Williams has two children to raise, a ranch to build and a bet to win to keep everything he owns. He asks Charity to marry him and as a good Christian man, he look far better than the wild miners she deals with and accepts his offer.

This set the story for a fast and action packed story based on Christian values while they work together to settle on the farm on the Montana prairie. Charity is sweet, exciting and full of fun while being loyal and hard working to help Gabe in any way she can. Gabe is a loving father and a hard working man the comes to love Charity for the fun and excitement she has brought to his home with his children. Charity's Gold Rush is a great Christian historical fiction.

Gabriel made a wager on his land that he soon regretted, but was now desperate to find a mother for his children so he would not lose his land. Charity did laundry for the men in town after her father died having gambled everything away. Shortly after meeting Charity, without knowing much about her, Gabriel asks her to marry him. Charity notices how handsome Gabriel is and he seems to treat his children well, so she decides she could do a lot worse. At least she'd only have to do laundry for one man now. She agrees to the marriage. Just before meeting the pastor, Gabriel informs Charity this will be a marriage in name only. He would have the marriage annulled after one year. Charity is disappointed, but decides to keep her word and marry him after all. When she finds out about the wager, Charity is afraid she married a gambler like her father. Gabriel soon realizes that Charity is nothing like his first wife. She is very stubborn, not very submissive, but is very affectionate to his children and animals, and she adds excitement to his life. Can he convince her to make this a real marriage? The story moves along nicely. They face many trials and struggle with their emotions. The children are sweet and they learn to enjoy life under Charity's care. I really enjoyed the story. The villain was awful, but the writer showed the villain's struggle with himself and his conscience, although it did not take up much of the story. Most of the story is about Charity, Gabriel and the kids. There were several typos and some grammatical errors, but the story was so good that I still gave it 5 stars.

Charity is a great character and strong woman who finds herself alone and taking in laundry to support herself. She has no limit of offers from miners for marriage but she holds out for love. One day a farmer enters her life. He needs a wife badly for his two mother less children but this man is not what he seems and soon Charity finds herself caught up in a love triangle that is not about her but her husband's dead wife. Very intriguing storyline that I really enjoyed.
