Top Customer Reviews

By Mike Tarrani HALL OF FAMETOP 50 REVIEWER on September 9, 2013
This poster is an inexpensive way to decorate a music room, apartment of other favorite spot. This is one of Herman Leonard's masterpieces shot shortly after Birdland opened. This photo is credited as 1949 and Birdland opened on December 15 of that year.

Although the paper is relatively light and not acid free (I could not find any indication that it is), the resolution is excellent. The lighting and grey scale are testimony to Leonard's skill as a photographer. Even the texture of Bird's jacket looks three dimensional. As for the poster itself, it unrolls and frames easily. I used double-sided backing tape to position it and had it hanging on a wall in less than fifteen minutes.

I have mine in a cheap frame in my guest room, so I was able to give arguably the world's greatest alto saxophonist a prominent place on an otherwise bare wall at an affordable cost. And I was able to show guests my love of a great musician.

If you want to know more about the photographer and some of his other iconic work check out Jazz, Giants and Journeys: The Photography of Herman Leonard. If you want an inexpensive, attractive way to decorate a bare wall, this and an inexpensive frame are all you need.
