My trucking career began in 1975 “by the seat of my pants”, as they say. The thought of driving such a large vehicle all over the country was exciting and was something I had always wanted to do. I had read a tractor-trailer driving manual on the topic 3 times before I went on the road with absolutely no trailer truck driving experience. This occupation is unique in so many ways and full of challenges. However, it is a necessity for our comfort and survival. It is a dangerous and sometimes frustrating career, but as someone once said, “It’s an endless, mindless, thankless job, but somebody has got to do it” Do it right, drivers. Don’t get in a big hurry and mess up your life or someone else's. Safe and intact is the way you want to end each trip. Do not take unnecessary chances with this career! Don’t think that this is an easy way to make a living. It may be easier than a lot of ways, but you really do have to know quite a bit and learn some skills to do it safely. The stories here are true and describe my life on the road from the beginning, all of the way to retirement. Not every story that I have of course, but many of the more interesting ones. You'll be educated and entertained. Enjoy the ride!

I began driving trailer trucks at the age of 21 with no more than the information from a training manual I had read 3 times. I retired at the age of 62 since my body was starting to ache and I wanted to enjoy my retirement. My driving record remained clean throughout my career but there were quite a few close calls for sure.

I won two third place trophies in the New Jersey State truck driving championships and also drove over-the-road approximately 3 years after which I stayed mostly local to intermediate. I haven't an accurate account of how many miles I've driven, but I know it's a lot.

I also owned my own truck, actually owned 2, but not at the same time. Ran on my own for 2 years before selling the second one. I am happily retired now and looking back decided to share some interesting, funny and hair-raising accounts of my trucking days. Enjoy the ride! It's a fun and informative read.

Insightful description of a “day in the life” of a long distance truck driver. Driving the LIE or the Cross Bronx Expressway is challenging in a car, let alone a large tractor trailer! An overall good description of being a long distance Truck Driver.

I've known Charlie as a neighbor for a few years now and I was happy to read his book and see that his natural story-telling abilities come across just as well in book form. This book will be give new respect for truckers and the highs and lows of their experiences as they bring us all the stuff we count on getting everyday. Puts a human face on the big truck filling your rear view mirror. Well worth a read! I loved it.

Who would have known the ins and outs of being a truck driver prior to cell phones? These often-times hilarious stories are eye-opening to the obstacles these truckers had to overcome. From getting lost without GPS in snowy Canada to partying with hitchhikers cross-country, this book has it all. Easy, fun read!

I laughed out loud reading some of the chapters in this book! Charles has obviously enjoyed his life as a truck driver and learned along the way during his career. His stories are told as if you are sitting right there having a beer with him. The lessons that he’s learned throughout his driving career could be applicable to any aspiring truck driver. Loved it and will read it again someday!

I got the kindle version and read it in one sitting. What a great read! I felt like l was sitting with a friend listening to his years as a trucker on the road. I will never look at a flatbed truck in the same way. l never realized the work behind just getting the load of products and the danger and responsibilities truckers face. I always admired truckers but Charliewheels has a conversational style that kept me engaged in his interesting life story. Aside from overcoming his fears and his humorous experiences so well described he also includes some excellent advice for all drivers regarding driving in frightening conditions. I appreciate the road warriors even more after reading this personally engaging book.

This is a fun and insightful "ride along" with a trucker much like we share the road with everyday. Some very humorous stories and some harrowing. Great book for an afternoon at the beach.
