Why the asterisk? The stabilized keys -- spacebar, in particular -- have considerable stabilizer rattle out of the box. The good thing is that the spacebar stabilizer is VERY easy to remove for lubrication -- I used dielectric grease, and the spacebar is nice and quiet without any discernible difference to how it feels. If it starts to feel mushy, you used too much.
Considering the price of this keyboard, should the spacebar be so rattly out-of-the-box? Absolutely not, and that is a fair criticism. But with some dielectric grease and ~5 minutes of work it's an excellent office keyboard.
My other criticism is, as previously alluded to, the price. This keyboard is nice but it doesn't exactly have the highest build quality. That's not a complaint as it'll last years under any reasonable use case -- but the build quality doesn't command such a high price compared to other options, in my opinion.
Firstly the keyboard has the option to go to the PS/2 connector port on the back of your motherboard instead of usb, which even today on the highest end gaming boards, still have that for a reason. It's not on there as some kind of budgeting mechanism to use an older port. There's two reasons for this. Latency reduction for the time it takes the keyboard to communicate with the motherboard and NKEY rollover. Even the highest end usb gaming keyboards, which have a polling rate of 8,000hz, still have some lag at about 1.25ms. With PS/2 you have virtually 0ms lag. PS/2 also supports true NKEY rollover which basically means you can press down as many keys you want simultaneously and the PC will register the key presses. USB boards have gotten better with this but they still don't have true rollover the way PS/2 does. This is because PS/2 connections use what's called an interrupt signal that gets sent directly from the keyboard to the pc to register instead of using the polling system usb keyboards use that essentially require the pc to continually ask the keyboard if it's doing anything yet.
This keyboard also has red type mechanical switches. For those who don't understand what the different color codes for mechanical switches are you basically have blue, brown, black, and red. Red are what's known as linear switches and are considered optimal for gaming. They're designed to be very sensitive and smooth so that key presses can be detected very quickly in competitive gaming as well as be pressed in rapid succession such as when you spam an ability in certain game. This keyboard is also offered in black switches which is basically the same linear type switch as red but there's a little added resistance to keys to press them down. They put gold plated material on the contact point of the bottom of the keys to help speed up the time it takes the keyboard to register the key press and send out the interrupt signal to the motherboard. Again these are things that just take some minimal research and reading to look into.
Cherry didn't waste time putting things on like annoying fancy RGB lighting that serves no purpose and just wastes resources or extra shortcut function keys that either you'll never/rarely use or don't work anyway. This is designed to be a pure mean lean gaming machine of efficiency tailored to the certain person who truly cares to that degree where he/she wants to get every half second or extra millisecond reduction in time they possibly can. Some people do; some people don't. But just understand what you're buying before you order and review fairly and accordingly for what it's designed to be.
If you're just looking for a nice typing keyboard to do work on your pc I would recommend either a blue mechanical switch or non-mechanical keyboard. I'll think you'll be much happier with the feel. Browns are more if you want to hybrid out on working and gaming.
My overall rating: work of art for a pure gaming board.
First of all, it is not silent at all, it gives as much of the noise as a typical mechanical keyboard would give. It is NOT silent at all.
Secondly, it feels really mushy when typed up.
Third, there is no bump or any indication on the key F and J, so you wouldn't know if your hands are in the right position when you not look at the keyboard.
Finally, this keyboard should've came in on Friday, but the shipping is delayed and I got it today Tuesday. So disappointed about everything so far. I am trying it out for a period, if I could not get used to it, I am considering returing.
I'm going to give it another two months and see if things change. Right now I'm meh about it
The keyboard itself feels cheap. Lot's for flex and movement in the case itself. There's an echo when you type like it's hollow. The free keyboards that you get when you get a workstation PC are better in touch and sound. The best way to describe it, I've been offended by a keyboard. I don't know if it's a scam unit and someone gutted the real keyboard for parts (it was previously opened) and re-used the shell or if Cherry really makes such a terrible keyboard.
