Please prepare your Black daughters for the sometimes treacherous waters of dating! Giving this book as a gift would be a great start. Please do not live in denial and let them "figure it out on their own". We must guide these precious young ladies into quality, loving relationships where they are VALUED!
This won't be beneficial for all women: in fact, some women may find it redundant or otherwise unnecessary for them. I'd advise anyone to look through Evia's website THOROUGHLY before purchasing the book: if her essays are not enlightening to you, then the book probably won't be, either. BUT, if you find her free information helpful, then this book will be an absolute treat for you.
A previous commenter mentioned that this book is a good gift for young girls. I ABSOLUTELY agree! The information contained in "Choices" is probably some of the most basic lessons girls can learn to survive and thrive in the dating world. It will help girls to feel empowered and inspired. I highly recommend it!
The best books are the ones that draw you in, that make you the reader become a part of them. CHOICES is that kind of book. It offers a wealth of ideas and wisdom for black women re-thinking the criteria on which she chooses a man and offeres insight into the impact that choice can have on a woman's security, happiness and children.
I highly recommend it!
Regarding the newsletters for sale on her blog, I bought vetting 101 and when I wrote that I was disappointed with the lack of substantial content she admitted there wasn't anything special to them just common sense which she's repeatedly blogged about. Yes, well, I'm educated, well-read, and cultured so I have enough of my own common sense, I didn't need to pay for hers. If she was selling common sense then she should have named it Common Sense 101. If you're looking for more substantial advice/guidance then I suggest looking elsewhere. But again I AM IN 100% AGREEMENT WITH HER MESSAGE: BW NEED TO BE OPEN TO IR DATING AND RESIST THE BC POLITICS. However, her delivery and pushing of products she hasn't thoroughly invested in developing (beyond common sense) is not for me.
