UPDATE: 3/6/19 I contacted the seller to see if they would replace this non-functioning mat and nope. They won't. Seems they have a 30 day return policy. So - IF YOU BUY THIS AND NEED TO RETURN IT DO SO WITHIN 30 DAYS OR YOU ARE OUT OF LUCK. AND MONEY.
Also, if you're not germinating a lot of seeds/clones at once, this may be overkill. I'm having some success currently with a very small batch (this has room for 72 plants), but I can't tell if I have unviable seeds, or if I was unable to keep up with the humidity level due to all of the dry space in there. My attempt to start 6 seeds netted me three plants and three empty rapid rooters. I'm misting water in there twice a day to get the humidity levels up in the 70's, but the humidity only lasts for about 2-3 hours with a heavy misting. I believe that with more plants inside, I would have much more luck.
Set of 48 Starter Peat Pots / Fertil Pots - 2.25 Inches Tall - 2.25 Inches Wide instead. Together it brought the germination of sunflowers, beans, squash, thyme, cilantro, morning glories and other plants in just - ready for it - three days.
It's an amazing deal with the heating mat. Also comes with a dome and water tray. The dome has a vent on the top and left and right sides. The flaps aren't very reliable though. They keep falling off when I turn them.
I built a light stand out of scrap wood and a shop light that I bought at a re-use store (see picture). I bought Jiffy-7 peat pellets, but they are too big for this kit. I put some water in the water tray and soaked the pellets. Then I cut the netting off the pellets (planned to do anyway) and filled the compartments with peat. Then I sowed the seeds.
After one day I saw a sprout (basil)! After 4 days, quite a few seeds have sprouted; basil, cornflower, bush beans, squash, cucumber, chamomile, daisy, melon, etc. So far so good.
The seed tray has holes in the bottom already, so that's a plus. However, the seed tray is pretty flimsy. I don't think it will last terribly long.
This worked great. The death rate was significantly lower. There is not a grow light with this so if you want one of those it will need to be purchased separately. We already had one so used it. With this over 75% of the plants survived to transplant compared to our previous attempt where only half did.
Please keep in mind we are new to this and don't know the tricks and hacks of the trade. With our short time in trying to grow seedlings this has worked best for us.
I got these 6 cell starter trays https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0149L72CE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
because I was growing a few different types of things and wasn't sure they would all sprout at the same time. Works great!

Work away from home for months on end so by the time I got back to complain it couldn't be returned.
Company didn't even respond to my review.
I deal with vivosun now and they are a great company who would never let this happen.
heat mat worked great at keeping seeds warm during lights out and did not need mat while lights were on
kept humidity levels at 75 80 percent at lights off and on
very pleased with it fragile so gentle use is required if rough it wont last long
used peat plugs in it and lifted them out with a pair of clippers when needed
