The XtraBlue Advantage
Enjoying your beautiful pool just got easier with the convenience and power of Shock XtraBlue. While removing bacteria and swimmer contaminants, Shock XtraBlue also helps control algae growth - including common green algae, slimy mustard algae, and stubborn black algae - that can ruin water quality and clog your filter. Best part? It works this hard for you without bleaching your liner or affecting pH. Use Shock XtraBlue as part of your weekly maintenance for more Marco and more Polo. Swim On!
To shock water clear:
1 bottle treats 12,000 gallons of water.
- Broadcast in pool's deepest area with filter and pump on.
- Run filter and pump for 4-8 hours. Do not pre-dissolve.
- Wait at least 15 minutes after application before entering pool and only enter when chlorine level is 1 to 4 ppm.
- For best results, shock weekly and after heavy use.
To kill algae:
- Brush pool surfaces while filter and pump are operating.
- Add in areas of heaviest algae growth, operate filter, and pump for 24 hours.
- Repeat brushing. Product can be re-applied after 72 hours if necessary.

Maintaining Proper Chlorine
Keeping chlorine at proper levels helps your water stay clear and clean, controls algae growth, and protects your swimmers from harmful bacteria.
Use Clorox Pool&Spa My Pool Care Assistant Multi-Use Smart Strip to test your chlorine levels weekly, and ensure your water's pH levels are balanced.
- Free Chlorine: 1 to 4 ppm*.
- Total Chlorine: 1 to 4 ppm.
- pH: 7.2 to 7.6.
On warmer days, you may want to test water more frequently, and adjust how much chlorine you add to the pool to ensure your levels are between 1 and 4 ppm.
Shocking helps you maintain chlorine levels by destroying bacteria and swimmer contaminants that will increase demand for chlorine in your pool, and making it harder for your pool to maintain free chlorine of 1 to 4 parts-per-million, and causing your water to get cloudy or smelly.
Shock weekly with a Clorox Pool&Spa Shock product to help free up more available chlorine in your pool.
Chlorine quickly depletes when exposed to the sun's ultraviolet rays, and needs to be protected from the sun in order to last longer. Cyanuric acid, also known as chlorine stabilizer, will stabilize chlorine under the sunlight's rays, ensuring longer lasting sanitization.
All Clorox Pool&Spa Chlorine products contain stabilizer, to ensure long lasting sanitization, reducing your need to add more chlorine than necessary. Test and maintain a stabilizer level of at least 30 parts-per-million all summer.
High pH or low chlorine levels are among the most common reasons pool water may cloud.
Step 1: Test water to determine if these parameters are in range and adjust as needed.
Step 2: Start seeing results in 24 hours.
Chemically cleaning the filter at pool opening and mid-season helps improve filtration and restore water clarity.
Step 1: Backwash filter or chemically clean filter media.
Step 2: Empty any debris in the skimmer basket that may be clogging water flow.
Debris and contaminants enter pool water by wind, heavy use and rain. It may cloud the water or strain the pool's system.
Step 1: Empty skimmer basket.
Step 2: Skim or vacuum debris from water.
Step 3: Apply a clarifier or a flocculant to improve filtration.
Step 4: Shock water to remove swimmer contaminants.
Clorox Pool&Spa shock Xtra blue will shock, oxidize, buffer and clarify your pool's water. It also kills bacteria and contains blue algae killing crystals. With the easy pour bottle, use what you need and close the bottle until the next application.
