I received this book from the author in advance for a completely honest review and that is just what he is going to get.
I have read numerous Matt Shaw books. This one came across to me as being different than all the others I have read. That is not a bad thing mind you. I love each and every Matt Shaw book and this one was no different.
What do YOU see what you look at your reflection in a mirror?
"I was still wearing the white powder upon my face. I rarely took that off. I don't like the face underneath. I don't like the person underneath. I find him hard to control. I find him hard to talk to. I find him hard to keep quiet. The makeup I wear keeps him hidden. The makeup keeps him at bay and that's the way I like him."
I admit, my heart hurt for this clown. He was dealt an awful crappy hand of cards in his early life. His parents divorced when he was young and most of the time he lived with his father- "A stern man who liked a drink. His demons mostly came at night where he then found the need to taken them out on me. By morning he'd always come into my cramped bedroom apologizing- and hungover- but I could never trust him, I could never taken him at his word."
The clown simply wanted to make children smile. Unfortunately his close friend has a strong hold over him and thinks "children should be seen and and not heard.Read more ›
People might try to compare Clown to Stephen King's IT.but they can't really be compared. IT was a supernatural horror story. Matt Shaw's Clown is pure psychological terror. Someone like this could very well exist in real life. We've all seen or heard about crazy people that talk to themselves. Matt Shaw lets you inside the head of one such person.
This story is very dark and disturbing. The finale had me cringing. The ending was a surprise and very fitting. Fans of Shaw's work and newbies will love this novel.
By day he’s mostly the entertainer, working the kids parties and the Park to drum up business, polite, funny, wouldn’t say Boo to a goose it seems. He leaves his makeup on to keep away the evil one but it’s not working anymore, in fact it’s taking over, he’s losing control and when he learns what’s been going on when he’s not in control.
It can only end one way, somebodies going to hell.
The dialogue is handled really well, it’s mainly pretty obvious which persona is talking and this leads to some great opportunities to mix it up, cracking story I couldn’t stop reading the second half as our protagonists situation escalates to the extreme.
Matt Shaw is fast turning into my discovery of the year and I’ve got a hell of a lot to catch up on, the writing is disturbing but not in too much of a vulgar way, it’s cleverly written, hiding behind some breathtaking moments and I’m loving it.
Clown was given to me by the author as a Beta read for an honest review, it’s now available to buy and I recommend you get it, my thanks for the opportunity and I look forward to reading more of Matt Shaw’s work.
CLOWN...good clown vs. evil clown. This clown enjoys entertaining children at their birthday parties and such. He likes to see them smile and laugh. When he goes home it is a different story. He fights with the evil clown, the one that wants to do bad things, disturbing things.
It was interesting reading this book, being in the mind of the clown, hearing the arguments that ensued. Seeing which one was becoming stronger, and in the end...oh the end!
I haven't read a story quite like this. It was a good change. I highly recommend it if you are into extreme, gory, or disturbing.
This book was given to me by Matt Shaw as a beta read for my thoughts and an honest review. Thank you, Matt, for the opportunity. I think this was a great idea that turned into an amazing read. Matt is a very talented writer with an excellent imagination.
5 stars, yes!! I will continue reading Matt's work. Well done, keep up the good work.

I have read many of Shaw books. He does have original plots however, the many... MANY misspelled and misused words are way too common. Read morePublished 14 months ago by Sindee0816
Matt Shaw's style of switching points of view between the personalities almost made me believe that the murderer is the one with the right ideology.Published 14 months ago by Samuel
What a horrendously great novel. I've read quite a few Matt Shaw books, and by far this is the one that left me feeling the most uneasy. Read morePublished 20 months ago by Ashley Thompson
Enjoyed this one it didn't have any twist but I don't believe that was what the author was going for over all good bookPublished 20 months ago by Dustin Hughes
It's depressingly dark, sad, and gory. Though it might not be for everyone, I can say that it was unique and worth a read.Published 21 months ago by Craig
I guess I have to give this one star because there isn't any rating less than that. I thought the book was boring and I trashed it after reading about 1/3 of it. Read morePublished 21 months ago by Cheri Farmer
