Okay, look, the whole keyboard doesn't light up. And anybody who knows anything about keyboards will tell you: keyboards that light up are awesome. It's just science.

Only half of this keyboard lights up. You want the whole keyboard to light up? Pony up some extra bread.

But if you're buying this keyboard because it has Cherry MX Brown switches in it, you're smart. You're the insider. You've got the real info, because you're "in the know." You've got data only few others have, and you're not afraid to act on it, and that makes you special, like a super-spy. You're like a Navy Seal of keyboards.

Cherry MX Browns and Blues are like sexy-times for your fingers. It's typing nirvana. You will be spoiled for life, and all other lesser keyboards will feel shriveled, like lesser beings. They'll know they can't satisfy you, not like this keyboard can. They can't bring that real, leg-quivering typing satisfaction. All your friends will talk about how you're just "glowing." And they're right. Because you've been typing on this keyboard, and this keyboard lives in the realm of true typing enlightenment.

Were I to offer any criticism of this keyboard, I'd say that the USB cable takes a little more force to plug into the keyboard than I thought it would, and until you do, the board won't turn on, which is fine. Just make sure you really shove it in there. Be assertive, it'll respond well.

In closing, this is a great keyboard and its quality will probably distract you for quite some time so that you don't end up thinking about how much you really need a girlfriend.

If you guys think your keyboard is DOA, Make sure you push in the mini USB really hard. You'll hear it click. I thought mine was DOA and tried that and it worked. WEEEEE I'm happy now.

I got this keyboard a couple of months ago (and I am writing this review from it!) and it is solid. After a lot of research I decided that cherry brown switches were the best for my needs- a hybrid between gaming and typing (I am a college student.) The keyboard is sturdy, the rubber grips and the sheer weight of it keep it in place on my desk.

-Has a number pad
-Partially backlit
-The keys are all straight and sturdy
-1 MS response time
-N-KRO through USB (most keyboards only have 6KRO through USB)
-Can lock the windows key in gaming mode, and has media controls on the top row
-Braided, detachable cable- no tangles in the cord

-Partially backlit (this is a pro and a con because I do wish it was fully lit but for the price, partial is still a bonus)
-Need a wrist rest to type and game comfortably for long sessions
-The cord comes out of the cable channel on the bottom periodically- definitely not a big deal to me, but it might bother someone

**Note: While I was looking up reviews for this on other websites, many people complained of getting a "DOA" keyboard. And initially- this is what I thought too, but it wasn't. The micro usb end that plugs into the keyboard is kind of difficult to fit. I plugged the cord in and nothing was happening, but after 5 more minutes of wrestling the cable in more securely, it turned on and was in perfect working condition. So if your board isn't immediately coming on, try and secure the cord better first before sending it back.

Let me start off by saying that I loved this keyboard while it worked. However, a month after receiving it, the ALT key stopped working. I haven't dropped it, hit it, or spilled anything on it. It went out of the box and onto my desk and has stayed there. I contacted the manufacturer for warranty information, and after having to register for two separate support related websites, I was informed about the return policy. Package and ship it back to the manufacturer at MY cost, and wait for them to evaluate whether or not it was an actual warranty issue and not my fault. Did you know on the support site that there is a DROP DOWN menu option for "alt key stopped working"? That's how common a problem it is, apparently. I'm appalled. At this point, shipping the keyboard back at my cost, and my inconvenience was not an option. So, I decided to tough it out, and just remap the alt key to something else, and just deal with it.

Well, 30 minutes ago, my "/" key stopped working. This is the last straw. It's been less than 2 months and this thing is breaking down.

If you buy this keyboard, do yourself a favor and keep the packaging it shipped to you in, so you have it ready for when you need to send it back to the manufacturer.

Coming from an old "smash'em" Microsoft keyboard to this mechanical took some getting used to. The key travel is a lot more, but after using it for a week I could never go back again. This very much reminds me of my old NorthGate computer keyboard -- yes, Northgate the computer company that went out of business and people continued to pay over $100 years ago for their old keyboards; they should have dropped the computers and just made keyboards.

The CM Storm satisfies my to needs by having a double life, one as a programmer and the other as a part-time gamer. It does both with ease and I'm very pleased with my purchase.

The lights are a plus, even though I'm a touch typist, it still looks cool when I am gaming. The ability to lock the windows key is a plus for gamers. The numeric keypad was not a big deal for me and if it did not have it I would not have cried, but I do use it some (the wait for the compact CM keyboards was just too long.)

This should last awhile, it feels solid.
