Style: Brown CHERRY MX SwitchesVerified Purchase

For me, this keyboard is exactly what I am looking for in terms of features and looks. It feel very well-built, looks fantastic, and is perfect for those who do not need/want a number pad [for ergonomics I actually recommend using a tenkeyless keyboard no matter what and purchasing a dedicated number pad and placing it on the left side of the keyboard for proper ergonomics]. I have tried this keyboard with all of the different switch options, and I currently own 2 of these boards. My day gig is computer programming, so I type all day long for 40 hours+ per week. I also have RSI and arthritis, so I am especially sensitive to sucky keyboards. This keyboard, when properly configured, is a huge upgrade for me compared to the standard issue dell rubber dome keyboards found in many cube farms.

When buying a mechanical keyboard, a common point of frustration is choosing which type of cherry mx switch is best for one's needs. I have concluded that, although reading descriptions of the different switch types is entertaining, the only way that one will know for sure is to try all of them out in person. But with that in mind, I will still give my opinion and personal description of the different switch types in hopes that it will help guide potential buyers in the right direction.

<<<CHERRY BROWN>>>
The first version of this keyboard that I bought had cherry brown switches. These are relatively light switches and have a subtle tactility that I only understood after experiencing a true linear and non-tactile switch [cherry mx red]. Being a light switch, they are easy to bottom out, and bottoming out on a mechanical keyboard is like smashing your fingers into concrete. My first board with the browns ended up dying, and I was quickly sent a replacement from Amazon. Hey I understand that not every board is going to come out perfect, so I am not going to lower my rating for this. I was relatively happy with the browns, but felt that something was missing, so I decided to try this same board with the other switch options as time and money permitted.

These are heavy tactile switches. They are rather clicky at the point of actuation, and my final conclusion is that they are too stiff for me. I have RSI in my fingers, and in the long run this switch is bad news for somebody like me IMO. The thing I did like about this switch is that it made the entire typing experience feel very "industrial strength." Cherry green switches feel more solid and substantial than the rest of the bunch. I know some people who pound the living daylights out of their keyboards, and this switch would suit them well and potentially keep them from bottoming out so much, which is hard on one's fingers.

I like these quite a bit. They are clicky and tactile like the greens but require much less force to actuate compare to the greens [but more force to actuate than the browns and definitely the reds]. I really like the tactile feedback they provide when typing. Noise can be an issue, so this keyboard without sound-dampening [I will get to this in a moment] might not be a good option for many office environments. I ended up sending this keyboard back because they sent me the non-stealth version, but I certainly paid for the stealth version [which costs more].

These are also really nice. They are a linear switch, so they are totally smooth and have no tactility. They are slightly easier to actuate than the browns and thus are very easy to bottom out and experience a concrete landing. This switch will probably end up being best for me since they are so light on the fingers.

<<<O-RINGS>>>
So remember when I said that I liked the browns but thought that they were not quite right? A big part of what was bothering me was the rock hard landings when bottoming out. I did some research and discovered a mod that many keyboard geeks perform on their cherry mx keyboards: the O-ring mod. I bought some super expensive [for O-rings at least] o-rings from WASD right here on Amazon prime. THEY MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE IMO. Bottoming out no longer crushes my fingers, the keyboard sounds much quieter, and perhaps most importantly, the overall feel of the switch is much better now. I have done the mod to my red board, brown board, and the blue board. In all cases, the o-rings made a positive improvement. I highly recommend installing o-rings on any mechanical keyboard. The reds with o-rings are amazing for my RSI. If you experience pain in your fingers from typing...you might want to try a board with cherry mx red switches and o-rings. That is likely going to be my daily driver at work.

Style: Red CHERRY MX SwitchesVerified Purchase

My particular version is the Stealth with Cherry Red switches, I know that the reviews for the regular and stealth and the different switch colors are all lumped together, so keep that in mind.

Also keep in mind that this particular model (the Stealth) is very recent, so I expect that the problems that came with older models (and present in older reviews) may not be there anymore. That said, I got this keyboard only 7 hours ago so I can't say anything long-term wear issues that others complained about.

The keyboard is gorgeous. Attractive, sleek, no logos, nice and dark. Good weight. Good angle. Really just fantastic. I wasn't so sure about the red switches ( I do play games but I wanted a click, but the blue seemed to light for me for me to notice the tactile feedback... I wanted greens but they were unavailable at this time). Do not regret it at all. Reds are plenty, if you type like a gorilla like I do you'll click and clack as you bottom out every time.

Yes, I bottom out. Bad habit, I suppose. Will hopefully grow out of it as time goes by.

A few things I want to note:

This comes with 6 extra keys - 4 red WASD ones with arrows on top and the appropriate letters on the front side, and two ugly COOLER MASTER logo keys to replace the Windows keys. Sadly the logo is still on top, so if you do put them on it's jjarring and distracting and ugly. Don't let that hold you back from buying this - they're just extra and not actually important, I just want to be clear about the contents.

Also note that the CHERRY RED VERSION has red underneath the keys, which was carried over from the black / red regular Quickfire Rapid cherry red keyboard. It's very hard to see unless you look carefully, to be honest - but keep that in mind in case you plan on doing some custom keycap stuff - the panel under the keys is red.

Hope this lasts a long time. I'm very happy with it at the moment. Get it. It's cheap and basically an American branded Filco, and Filcos are some of the best keyboards in the world (and when I say basically, I mean the exact same Chinese manufacturer). Save yourself the trouble of getting an expensive European Filco shipped overseas and get this cheaper, wonderful alternative.

EDIT: Original review was posted mid-June. It is now mid-October. Keyboard has shown NO signs of wear or breaking and is still comfortable to type on. Definitely do wish I had waited for the green keyswitches, though. Oh, well!
