[review edited because i accidentally put in the specs for a different spindle (a +R spindle)]
from the shipper, 1Stop Outlet, instead I received JVC DVD-R 4.7 gb White Inkjet HUB 16x !!!
Normally, I order the White topped CD-Rs and when I saw these I was like "oh man, they sent me CD-Rs instead of DVD-Rs!"
But a quick Disc Info check with Toast and BAM! proved that they were indeed TYG03 Taiyo Uden discs, only 16x rated ( for higher speed burners, not 8x speed rated ( for most compatibility with all DVD Burners made between 2003 to 2012).
If they were not Tayio Uden ( TYG03) I'd be highly upset and would be contacting Amazon!!
So...if you have an older DVD Burner, you'd get stuck with DVD-Rs you might not be able to burn.
Fortunately, my iMac has an external Samsung 22X burner, manufactured in 2009, so these discs aren't going to be a problem.
Taiyo Uden discs are great, just be aware that you may not get discs that will be compatible with older burners, and if possible
test a burn with one discs before burning a lot to insure computability with your internal or external DVD Burner.
In the past year or so it seems there have been an uptick in complaints concerning the failure of rates of TY discs. I don't know if that's really the problem or the fact that many people have the same idea --- turn to the professional stuff when all else fails. On the other hand, it could be that the JVC/TY partnership isn't working out so great for the sake of quality control. For instance, quite a number of the TYs, especially near the top of the stack, were scratched and scuffed on the front. Some have also pointed out that TY media is often counterfeited. I did notice that the manufacturer leaflet shown in some of the user-uploaded product photos was missing from my cake box so I did what I could to verify authenticity and it seems to check out: the code on the disc begins with GG and a computer program identifies it as TYGO2.
I am throwing in an extra star because I know that my DVD recorder, like many devices of this type, is picky. I would have thrown in yet another star, for a three-star review, but for the fact that my Mac wouldn't even load these blank DVDs. I had some success burning data on a newer PC to these DVD-Rs but they weren't nearly as compatible as I would have expected even when excluding my overly-picky DVD recorder from the list. This media would probably be suitable for someone who is primarily concerned with burning data on a PC and likely acceptable for the owner of a much newer and more forgiving DVD recorder.
UNBOXING: Just looked like an ordinary generic casing but I was thrilled to see the term “For Professional Use”.
BURNING: Wow!!! I had 1 failure out of 400. Immaculate and nearly perfect. DVDs played on most DVD players flawlessly. I use CASIO thermal printer for labeling and final product looked very professional.
CONCLUSION: I would purchase JVC products again and I did. I would highly recommend JVC blank DVDs. Very reasonable price and nearly perfect quality blank DVDs.
