If you are looking at this book, chances are you do not have a choice in the matter of buying it - it is a mandatory book for your VLSI class. Just have two thoughts for you that should make the decision easier:

1- It is one of the better written engineering textbooks. It will help and it won't be too painful to go through.
2- Amazon probably has it cheaper than you'll find it elsewhere so just buy it.
