This was my first mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX Red keys. I purchased this keyboard to replace my crummy, stock Dell keyboard at work. I figured a quieter key without the tactile click would be quiet enough as I have my own office. As long as they don't hear me down the hall, I would be fine. I use razer greens at home, and before that an ancient keyboard from the 80's that I had to give up once motherboards stop using ps/2 connectors (it had an AT connector, which was adapted to ps/2, which when adapted again to usb, didn't work). I loved that keyboard so much so that it is still in my closet rather than answering the question of whether or not it would stop buckshot.
Now to the actual review...I like my "new" keyboard. As I mentioned in the title, the product looks new and one cannot tell it is a refurb unless they saw the generic card box that it came in. The keys sit a little higher on the board then I am used to. When doing research, I could not understand what "bottoming out" meant. The keystroke seems long enough that I rarely bottom out, unlike the razer greens I'm using now to type this review.
For those that just want to know if it is suitable for work, let me say this...if you are in a cubicle environment and at least a portion of your cube mates use a phone for work, no one will notice. If you work in an open floor plan office and people just walk around instead of congregating in the break room/water cooler, no one will notice. If you work at a small business and do not have your own office, it IS louder than a membrane keyboard. The difference is noticeable immediately. Whether or not it is a nuisance to others depends on your coworkers. If they hate it, take the keyboard home and prove to your boss you are more effective at your job from home.
