Now, not only does the unit perform great, it also looks fantastic, especially in a white themed build or one with RGB lighting. I like the individually sleeved white cables and the included cable combs(those suckers are so expensive to buy separate, for what they are). The Corsair website's production description gives you incorrect details about the number of included cables, but the picture is accurate. These are also very high quality cables, seems like a decently thick gauge wiring, and there are capacitors in some of the cables which help with stability, reliability and safety.
I'm a little upset that they didn't included branded Velcro wraps for the cables. Literally every other unit I've bought from other brands comes with them, and those units cost half as much as this. I did appreciate the solid emblem for your case(instead of the sticker that some others give), but I feel that at this price range, including 50 cents worth of velcro wraps should be a no brainer for customer satisfaction. At least they slapped a 10 year warranty on it though, this unit will be in at least 2 or 3 PCs during that time. Power cable to the wall is also very thick. Aside from not including the Velcro cable wraps, they didn't really cheap out on anything with this.
And as a note about overvolting and overclocking my CPU: it's been delidded, the TIM underneath replaced with liquid metal, then the IHS reseated. I'm a risk taker with no regards for my CPU's warranty(voided it within 5 minutes of opening the box haha!), your results may vary and you have to be sure to take the risks into consideration before doing anything outside of manufacturer recommendations.
Example 500watt 80% efficient will pull 625watts from the wall at full load! at 90% efficiency the same PSU would do 555 watts from the wall. I've dropped an image chart below for reference.
It supports my AMD GPU at 4k res and hasn't been an issue if I use Afterburner to OC my GPU, this PSU also powers 2 fans, a watercolor, my motherboard, 6 hard drives for content creation and of course my CPU.
- Fully Modular
- 80 Bronze Standard is Good enough for my needs
- Handles a lot of loads even with CPU & GPU is OC'd
Now that that's out of the way, let me tell you about it's performance. Holy moly is this thing incredible. Currently I have it supporting an i7 8700 intel CPU, 1080 gtx graphics card, two sticks of DDR 8gb 3200 corsair ram, 2 2tb hard drives, 1 500bg m.2 drive, 3 case fans, and a corsair 105 hydro cooling system, and so far it has been more than smooth sailing. This thing powers my rig easy breezy, lemon squeezy, no problem whatsoever. And did I mention the sound it makes while running? No... I didn't... That's because it doesn't. This thing is so whisper quiet, that I have to check the case lights to know if my system is on. Even under the stress of playing PUBG or Overwatch at max settings, this thing refuses to make a peep. If I had one thing I had to absolutely complain about, it would be the price. $160 is pretty steep for a power supply and I'm sure similar products could perform comparably to this product. I'm well aware that some of that price tag is going into the corsair name brand, and of course the unique white look, but on top of that, it really is a top-notch quality product. I promise you won't regret pulling the trigger on this purchase!
Corsair, your customers are not idiots.
I'm not so bothered by the defective units as things break, big deal! But the level of customer service has been below anything I have ever dealt with in my life. This is coming from a veteran if that helps paint a picture. There were weeks of no replies to my ticket (I updated nearly ever day asking for information), they are open for less time banks are open (prime business hours only, you know, when YOU are at work they are, too) and finally their staff is as unprofessional as you can get.
Needless to say I have been a long time fan of Corsair but after this whole ordeal, I am not.
