My daughters' piano teacher recommended I get this book and I am glad I did. It is so easy to follow that they both pick it up and practice on their own without me having to remind them frequently. The accompanying cd is a big help as they can hear the songs being played and can follow it. If you don't know a song, it is usually difficult to figure it out by just looking at the notes in the book - but this book actually comes with a cd with all the songs, which are played more than once at a time - so you can actually practice with the music and then again on your own with just the beat of the music (with you filling in the notes). Even I have fun learning with them - they are 7yrs old and 4-1/2 years old. I have learnt much with them through this book and cd, and we take turns playing the songs. It makes learning to play the piano lots of fun, and not a task. We also bought the Book 2 and that also comes with a cd! Very easy indeed!

I really like this series for my little piano students. The logic and pace are great, and they are playing songs and reading music before they know it. The illustrations are colorful and delightfully goofy. I highly recommend them.

Excellent material for the 5 - 6 year old beginner! You might want to ask for older editions in which the notes are printed larger.

The first five right hand notes are presentd first, along with instruction in time valuues of the quarter note, half note, and whole note. With each new note, the position on the staff is clearly pointed out, as well as the corresponding location on the keyboard and the finger with which it is played. (There are diagrams of the keyboard on which the relevant note is highlighted clearly, as well as drawings of the hand with numbered fingers). The instructions are clear and straightforward.

The same holds true for the first five left hand notes. More musical concepts, such as the whole, half and quarter rest are introduced. The lead in bar and the repeat sign are also learned.

Indeed, I have used this book with kindergarten aged beginners, teenagers and older adults and recommend it highly!

My daughter (7) really wanted to learn to play the piano, so we got her a decent keyboard and this book. The book is easy enough to follow that I (who has no experience playing piano) can use it to help my daughter. The lessons are straightforward and help new players learn the keys and basic concepts of playing. A great introductory book.

Highly - Highly recommend!!!! I'm a piano teacher. I teach 4 years old and up. Until I found this book, my students were instinctively learning the finger numbers instead of the pitch notations. With this series the students learn the pitch notations right away without the finger number!! There are NO finger numbers!! Each lesson introduces one pitch notation starting with middle C. This is AWESOME!! I recommend this for any beginner!!! Even the older student because It comes with a CD that the student can play along with - this way the older students have a challenge. I'm hoping that Amazon starts carrying these in their warehouse so we can all get it with our Amazon Prime.

This is the BEST book for teaching beginning students, especially young ones (elementary age). Make sure they use the CD for rhythm and counting. I use this book for the first 1-2 months (depending on the age of the child) until they learn the basic note reading skills for treble and bass clef and then I move them up to John Thompson's First Grade Book (timeless).

This is, hands down, the absolute BEST piano method book for ANY age. I just don't get the other method books, even the usual suspects, throwing everything and the kitchen sink at the students from the very beginning, cluttering up the page. This book literally teaching and drills ONLY ONE concept per page, in the exact order needed to properly learn piano. I never use anything else with beginners or returning non-advanced students. (As an aside, I confess, I have never listened to the accompanying CDs with this book.)

I read through this book and started working with my child and an old keyboard I found in our house. We both found this method easy learning one note at a time and slowly introducing other new concepts in each lesson.
