Fair warning, Cora Brent did tell us that she was going to break our hearts in this one and she did.
For me though, it was only because of them boys. Con and his brother Stone...
Don't get me wrong, I didn't want Erin to die, (not even a spoiler because come on...it was in the last book), but I never connected with her. She was selfish, in my opinion... Is that crazy? Am I just in a mood tonight or something? Maybe... but I just didn't get the appeal...
First love and all that? Sure, I was gutted for Con that he lost her, but I hated every second of the doubt that I had between her and Stone. I didn't want to think that Stone would do that to his brother and in the end, I was right.... We had to get to the VERY end to figure it out though and that drove me crazy and made me wonder what reason's by the end I'd have to not like the chick.....
I dunno... it was a heartbreaking story. I hated how terribly the boys' mom treated them, Conway especially. I hate that he's had so much bad in his life and then the two things he loved most in the world he doubted and then lost and then I hated that he was going through the loss of both of them without Stone.
I cannot wait to see what happens next. I hope they both get everything they deserve and I cannot wait to watch it happen.
4 stars from me! And I hope their mom gets a dose of her own stupidity and a slap upside the head by that little B we like to call Karma. She'd deserve all of it and then some.
“Cross”, Gentry Boys #5.5, a novella that gives an insight on what happened between Stone, Conway and Erin from “Hold”. The story shows the strong relationship between the brothers, that is also along the same lines as Creed, Chase and Cord. In the background, you also find out the truth of “Gentry secrets” that are unveiled to Conway, but he keeps the truth hidden to avoid hurting others. You also get to see more inside Erin than what was portrayed in “Hold”. More secrets are revealed from her past that are shared with her father. But kept from her sisters.
If you’ve read “Hold”, then you know how Stone, Conway and Erin’s fate is decided. I’m hoping in the following books, that Stone and Conway can find the strong connection they have again, and heal from the tragedy that broke them apart. And that somehow Conway will further understand Erin and her last days.
If you have not read The Gentry Brothers Series by this fantastic author I recommend you stop here and read those first. Yes, this can be read as a stand alone, but you will enjoy it much more if read after the others. Also, they are all great reads, so I can highly recommned them all.
This story is about two brothers and a girl. Conway (Con) and Stonewall (Stone) are so close they are like twins. They do not have an ideal live and depend on each other for everything. Erin is the girl next door. She grew up next door to the brothers and grew to love one. This story is a tragedy without a happy ending. In fact it is a heartbreaking read. Luckily, we know that we will get to continue our journey with other books in the works.
I highly recommend all of Cora Brents books to you. ENJOY!!!
In Cross you get to find out what truly happen prior to the events of the accident. You see a different side of Stone that not many got to see.
Knowing the true events that happened give you a completely new outlook of Stone. He may not be just the Gentry that every thought he was.
He was a friend to Erin when she needed it most. But all it does is form doubt in Conway's mind and left him believing that they both had betrayed him.
During Cross I continued to to feel different emotions. but one that stuck with me throughout was the burning knot in my stomach.
One that left me feeling raw and needing more.
Cora Brent is one of my most favorite and an extremely important author. I don't do spoilers so I will just tell you that you will want to definitely want to read this.
But, I also think you will like/love the books of the trio's.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND ALL OF CORA BRENT'S BOOKS
