I plugged it into a PCI slot and connected one red wire to my new sata hard drive and the other red wire to a new sata RW DVD drive. I was able to discard my old 80 gig IDE drive in about 5 minutes. I am not a geek so I never set up the raid array.

Ubuntu ok but not on Free BSD or Free nas

If you are panning on trying this with Free BSD or Free NAS this card is not the best bet as it does not pick up the drivers right and it will take a long workaround to get it working.. I ended up using it under Ubuntu 16.04 and it works just fine

Works as it should. You’ll probably need to update the driver via windows update or device config (advanced users of not recognized right away). Windows update is far easier. Plug n play. Don’t use the CD that it comes with it. Who knows what’s on it. Windows will do everything.

Using under Win 7 Home Premium (32-bit) for a couple non-RAID drives. Nice solution for an old PCI bus.

Received. Installed without using the small CD. My machine is based on ASUS P8P67-M motherboard and Windows 7 Home Premium (32-bit). The motherboard has recognized the card. Then I've clicked in Win 7 to automatically find and downloaded a driver and luckily it has happened because I've already reconnected my Blu-ray burner to this card and I was not really willing to reconnect everything back in order to use the small CD (included).

The box did include the two red SATA cables. Nice bonus to the card!

I am not using this card for RAID. My ASUS P8P67-M already has six SATA ports and when it comes to RAID configurations I would prefer to handle it through ASUS. However, this motherboard was a transitional model when it still had a legacy slot (PCI) and three new slots (PCIe). If I want to use three RAID sets with this motherboard, then I am out of luck in terms of connecting my internal Blu-ray burner. I am not willing to invest money and time into buying an external USB-based model, plus it would clutter my desk and will demand an extra socket for an AC adapter.

As a result of this PC environment I was looking for a "Reuse. Reduce. Recycle."-type of a solution. Re-using an old PCI bus for SATA1 makes sense. Optical drives usually don't demand too much throughput and are rarely used. An ability to add three more drives (as long as the PC case can fit) sounds like an extra bonus. Sometimes there is a necessity to connect an old 2.5" or 3.5" HDD temporarily to reformat it or to copy some files. I would not want to disturb existing RAID setups in this case, would you? This card allows to have an alternative while reusing a PCI bus that would be simply occupying space and gathering dust.

In addition. Some has stated that the sequence of drives got re-arranged after this card was installed and it took over disk0, disk1, disk2, and disk3. Not in my case. It seems that everything is sequential as expected and the Blu-ray writer is marked as a "CD-ROM0" in Windows 7's Disk Management utility.

I did not need to do the Firmware flashing, by the way. So far it is working with two separate (non-RAID) drives without the firmware being touched.

Hopefully this card will work long enough up to the point of upgrading to another generation of computers.

Thanks to whoever has invented it and mass produced to make the price so reasonable!

btw, it's really slow, like less than 100mb. Do not recommend for a RAID 0 unless you have an extremely old system.

Recognized automatically by Linux but doesn't work with port multipliers.

Linux recognizes drives directly connected to this card. It does not see the same drives through either known good port multiplier I tried.
So you can add four SATA II devices to a pc with a spare PCI slot, but that's all.

Arrived and when installed with nothing connected to this card the computer would not boot. Removed from main board and computer works fine again. Even tried the other PCI slot with the same results.
