The CURT class 3 trailer hitch is the most common type of trailer hitch installed on full-size pickup trucks and SUVs. It is also found on full-size cars, crossover SUVs, minivans and mid-size trucks. That is because the class 3 packs the punch of a heavyweight hitch while still staying light on its feet. This CURT class 3 hitch offers a gross trailer weight capacity of 5,000 lbs. and a comparable tongue weight capacity of 500 lbs. It is designed to be a custom-fit trailer hitch for certain years of the Jeep Grand Cherokee (except SRT) or Jeep Grand Cherokee (except SRT or diesel) (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com).The 2" x 2" receiver tube opening of this class 3 hitch is able to accept a hitch-mounted accessory, such as a bike rack or cargo carrier, or a ball mount to tow most standard size trailers, including utility trailers, single-horse livestock trailers, boat trailers and large campers. One special feature about the class 3 that is not found in classes 1 or 2 is its compatibility with a weight distribution hitch. When used in combination with a WD hitch, this class 3's gross trailer weight capacity increases to 7,500 lbs. and the tongue weight capacity to 750 lbs. (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component).CURT class 3 trailer hitches are engineered to be strong and capable, having a quality steel frame and a solid finish. They are put through strenuous testing before being deemed ready for market and come with two coatings -- a liquid Bonderite coating and a powder coat in high-gloss black -- that cure together to form a strong resistance against rust, scratching, UV damage and other wear. Our hitches are our pride, and as such, we back them up with a limited lifetime warranty and a one-year finish warranty.

NOTE: the pic shows the hitch having three holes on each side. It does not. It has just two holes per side and that is exactly what it is supposed to have. There are four bolts.
You'll need a 7 blade to 4 flat adapter for the wiring. The 2014 jeep GCL comes prewired unlike the 2013 and older models. But you do have to go to the dealership and have it activated to get lights to work.
Taking my time, it took 20 min to install - need assistance to hold it in place to set the first two bolts (one on either side)
Make sure you properly torque the bolts.
- It was simple to installed on my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with an impact driver (with a universal joint), and a bucket to balance the hitch on while I put in the first two bolts. Note that the bolts that I used were already in my new Jeep, so I just needed to take them out, put the hitch in place, then put the bolts back in.
Note: the hitch is designed to sit in between the two square bars of the frame and be bolted to the inside of those bars. The hitch needs to be slightly smaller than the gap between the bars so it can fit in. As a result, when put in palace the bolts need to deflect/bend the metal of the hitch slightly so the two ends are flush with the frame. I was a little surprised by this design, but it doesn't seem to be a problem yet.
It went on without too much trouble, but we had a hard time taking the tow hooks off of the car.
They way this hitch attaches to the car's frame, you have to completely remove the tow hooks and brackets that come on the car.
Its possible that the tow hooks only come on 4x4 versions, and this hitch may install differently on different kinds of cars and trucks, but in our case this was an issue.
Eventually we were able to get the tow hooks off. Once the area was clear, the hitch went in very quickly and easily.
Since then it has been used to tow small trailers, and for hitch-mounted accessories. We have no complaints on the operations or usefulness of this hitch. It has done everything we've asked.
The hitch itself is hidden fairly well underneath the bumper. It doesn't look quite as "clean" and streamlined as the towing package from the factory, but it looks like it belongs there. There is nothing sticking out to bump your shin on, and nothing that detracts from appearance.
Another thing to keep in mind is that you will probably need to install a wiring kit before you can tow a trailer. On our vehicle, the wiring harness was there, but it did not have the correct connectors. We had to buy an adapter to use the standard 4-pin trailer harness.
The price is better than other retailers, and the quality is good. I would recommend this hitch for light towing, and for mounting accessories and racks.
*the bolt heads that have to be removed are large and I didn't have a socket big enough. I used the spare tire lug wrench to loosen the bolts. I then used the spark plug socket to remove the bolts completely.
* you must use an utility knife to scrape away some of the caulking or the hitch will not fit properly.
* installed it myself be "resting" the hitch on my chest and lifting it into place.
* used the lug wrench to do final tightening. I have a torque wrench but no socket that fits it so I will double check the tightness later.
One disappointment with this hitch, there is no place to add a wiring harness like some other hitches I've seen. In hindsight I would have opted for this feature.
