Even thou the box was almost destroyed when delivered, but all the parts were there, very easy to put together and installed, really loved the way it hooked up to my 2008 DRV Elite Suite RL3 38 footer, very secured locking in and knowing it was locked in, it even came with the 4 new pins for the rails which I needed, it doesn't show or tell you in the info, but there in the box, it comes apart easy to grease with fittings, I gave it a 5 star because not only is it a 20,000 lb hitch I got it $200.00 dollars cheaper and shipped free at the time, was going to order from JCw (you know who), never again, I'll check Amazon from now on for about anything I'm looking for now. I don't think you'll go wrong if you need a hitch this size, it's heavy duty one and I see years of use from it.

Did quite a bit of soul searching before I opted for the Curt 20k Q5 5th wheel hitch. I also bought the special rail mounting brackets for my 09 GMC Sierra Dually. I had the rails installed professionally as there is quite a bit of work installing rails on my specific truck. That cost me $240.00 and that was money well spent. I installed the 7-way outlet my self using a T-harness that plugs into the truck 7-way outlet system. That was quite easy to do except for the drilling of the 2 1/8" hole. I bought a metal hole saw for the 2 1/8" hole.

The hitch comes in three pieces: The head assembly, the side brackets and the side arms/feet. From here it was pretty straight forward. The side brackets bolt to the side arms/feet with two bolts on each side. I choose the mid mounting holes (there are 3 sets). This turned out to be the right choice because once the 5th wheel was mounted on the hitch, the 5th wheel was dead level. The top of the bed dropped 2.5 inches due to the trailer load and would be slightly more except that I have air springs installed on the truck. The air springs only needed 5 PSI.

Dropping the head assembly onto the brackets is quite simple and straight forward. This unit is extremely rugged. My 5th wheel has a wet weight of 14K and I opted for the 20k because for the price the Curt was less than most other 20k hitches.

It took me awhile to do the couple and uncouple deal but once I got it figured out I was a happy camper (no pun intended). Coupling requires that the 5ht wheel pin/slide plate be at just the right height. For me that was 1" lower than the top of the hitch on the truck. All in all this is a great hitch and it looks good to boot. So, for under a $1000 (including the rail install), I think this is the way to go.

Like everyone else - the box was destroyed when it arrived, yet all the parts were there... Simple to assemble, even simpler to hook to the trailer... Just put it in yellow mode and reverse into it. Hitched and latched the first time... Had doubts due to it being so easy. Raised the legs on the trailer about a half inch, engaged the trailer brake, put it in drive and cringed..... To my surprise the darn thing latched that easy... My 38' Carriage was showing resistance saying she was ready to hit the highway... Some say they've had trouble getting it to latch and unlatch, I've done it nearly 10 times and it latches every time on the first shot.. For the 447.00 shipped for a 20k hitch and the ease of use, I don't think I'll miss my REESE one bit!!!!!!!!!!!!

I purchased this hitch for my pickup as I understood from reading that this is a really good 5th wheel hitch. While the hitch itself seems solidly constructed I am not impressed with it in several areas. I hope it will do the job and not leave me stranded, but I'm beginning to wonder. Your mileage may vary, but at least on mine the zerk fittings are crap. It wouldn't be so bad that they are in difficult areas to reach without much clearance - accept one issue. I had a grease gun (cheapy) that I have used for years. It would only go on the center fitting. I first figured that was because I bought a Harbor Freight quality tool years ago and perhaps I should get a better gun. We (my wife and I) were going on a camping trip so with the new hitch and only one location being able to be greased because of the zerk fittings I figured I would stop at Home Depot on the way and get a decent grease gun. Bought an expensive Lance (a grease gun for $25 is at least expensive to me...) Went out to the truck that had the 5th wheel trailer attached and tried to grease the two remaining zerk fittings. The first one I put the gun on was greased fine, however, the gun would *NOT* come off the fitting. Backing off the grease gun tension by unscrewing did nothing. I ultimately had to break the fitting by prying the gun off the fitting. So much for the camping trip. Now, finally a month later I decided to try to fix the broken fitting. Replaced it with a fitting from a box of fittings that I bought here. That worked. Now with new expensive grease gun in hand (the other was ruined by the fitting that couldn't be extracted), I greased it. Worked perfect. Went to the other fitting that I hadn't greased before.Read more ›
