My car would not start plus it does not aligned correctly

I have a Honda Accord 2006. I regret not spending a little more. I just received my shell and I could not not put in the screw because it does not align at all with the key. So I ended up not even trying to force it in because it is not worth messing up the cutting of my original key. The only reason why I’m not returning it, why go thru the hassle for $5.99. I guess you get what you pay for. I’ll be buying another one but from the dealer. Not worth the money. I gave it a one star because it was fast shipping and the second star because I at least I don’t have to be walking around with duct take on my key LOL.

So after I installed this shell, I tried turning on my car and it would not start. It would stall and refuse to turn on. I checked my battery and it’s a fairly new battery. I then used my original spare key and it turned on without hesitation. I will be returning this just because I have no use for it.

OK this fob does what it supposed to do, and like others have said, the holes don't align perfectly. But, it gets the job done and assembles easily and snugly. Shipped and arrived quickly.
***However, your original fob has a chip in it, and without the chip your car probably won't start. Found that out this morning, which turned in to a stressful morning bc I had to find another way to get to work. Thank god I found a YT video explaining this, as i had thrown away my orig. fob and today is trash day! Just called my wife and asked her to bring the trash back in so I can go digging for it!
The orig fob chip needs to be near the ignition then the car will start. Kind of a pain, and yes it's prob better in the long run to get a new fob from the dealer.

I read negative reviews before placing the order. I was cautious and hesitant; however, the prospect of saving almost $150 over getting a new key from the dealer was too good to pass. So I bought it. I noticed that many reviewers posted pictures of wrongly fitted keys. I may have been lucky, but everything aligned with my old key and this new frame. First of all, the metal core needs to slide onto the plastic housing, it gets tight, and I used a bit of oil on the plastic housing and the key's metalcore before sliding it on. I had to use pliers to push it at the very end. Also, once the metal core and the plastic end together, you have to SLIDE it into the frame, you cannot snap or drop it in as many pictures in negative reviews show. You need to slide it, and there is ONLY one way to slide it no for the screw hole to align.
All in all, the installation was excellent but tricky. The key now works and feels actually sturdier than before because of the extra plastic sleeve at the bottom of the key. I also purchased a silicone case to put over the new key to prevent any more damage. Great product and I hope it will last as long as my original key did (about ten years!).

First, there are no instructions. Not like this is rocket science, but they would be helpful. And the 'super easy installation' video above doesn't show how to install anything - just what the parts are.

Problem #1: key attachment - you have two choices in how to put it in the case, and you'll likely choose wrong the first time. If you look closely on the inside of the case (either side), the shape of the indent where it is to go matches that of the part, but it's somewhat difficult to see.

Problem #2: Everything fits inside the case nicely . . . until you try to close it. I've had three people try and there is always one side by the key that refuses to close.

Problem #3: You can't keep it closed with the screw if the case isn't fully closed.

I'd give this product 0 stars in all categories if I could. I'm returning it, which means I'll get my money back, but now I have to 1) actually return it and 2) find a new one. Negative value for the money.

Screw hole does not align with original metal key

The plastic sleeve fits the metal key snugly. However, the hole does not align with the original metal key. I have a 2006 Honda Accord. The screw also has coarse thread instead of fine thread like the original. It would have worked if the case hole aligns with the original metal key AND the screw is smaller such that it would go through the original metal key hole regardless of the thread. Now, I have to screw in the key slanted due to misalignment. Since it is slanted, the screw is not screwed in all the way. I have to force the screw into the original metal key hole due to misalignment. The case did snapped tightly. I hope the case stayed snapped since the screw is not screwed in all the way. The screw sticks out a little.

Screw Doesn't fit back in the key's metal hole

My OEM case had cracked to the point where the brass laser cut insert was falling out. I was hoping the new case would fix this, but the hole in the new case doesn't align with the hole in the brass key part, so I can't use the small screw to firm everything up, resulting in a sloppy loose fitting key the same as it was before.

Easy swap from the broken key into this new shell..... perfect fit 2009 Honda Pilot Key

Easy to do, perfect fit. When you insert and screw in the tiny screw that comes in your little zip lock bag (DO NOT LOSE THIS IN THE CARPET - and you do NOT use the original screw if you even still had it, you use the longer screw that comes in your rebuild kit), remember it's screwing into plastic on the opposite side of the case, so do not over-tighten and strip it out. Snug it up to keep dust out of it and call it good. You can always give it a little tweak later if need be.

The supplied screwdriver was fine but I have very strong hands. You may need to lay the key flat or part flat, and apply good pressure to get it started to remove the factory one. My little factory screw had some softer grade Locktite on the screw that had to be broken loose before the screw would start to back out. If not careful one could easily strip out the screw AND/OR the driver. Leather gloves helps apply more twist if needed. So push DOWN into the screw head some AND twist and it should go well.

Back to the product itself, it's excellent. Fits, close tolerances, sturdy, and at this cost I'm going to get one more to just throw in the drawer in case.

ONE LAST THING! While you have it apart, now is the best time to pop a new battery in. It takes one CR 1616, 3V battery, little hearing aid type, provided you are repairing a factory Honda fob.
