Better replacement for my CVA Wolf 50. My original ramrod didn't have the palmsaver option. I thought I could just buy the plastic piece but found that it doesn't screw on to the original rod (not threaded on the brass end). The original also did not have the screw on extension for cleaning. Instead it had a threaded telescoping end for this that I thought was a bit flimsy. Not planning on carrying solvent and patches around anyway. So in short, this new design is an improvement over the old one. I think a couple of the reviewers didn't quite understand how this new version is meant to function.

Works ok I guess. The palms aver on end suffered flash burns and turns brittle. Will probably need to purchase another palm saver end real soon. See attached pic. The design is great idea. Just not really satisfied with the palm saver end being burned up after the first shot.

Well that feels better! I bought my CVA wolf and it was painful loading it for numerous shots at the range. THis saves a heap of time and energy when loading and cleaning! Great product! The only downfall is you need to carry the 4" jag with you to make it long enough! Not a big deal at the range, but if you had to reload in the woods, its another item to bring with you! NBD for me but some might not like that feature!

UPDATE to original review below;...
This addendum is not a review at all but, some safety information for what could be a dangerous item if not properly used. My apologies about the length.

I have conducted some research and have found out there is a right way to use this item. That, unfortunately, is not described in CVA's safety and handling manuals leaving an opening for dangerous misuse.
The apparent way to use this is by pressing one's palm flat on top of the device to facilitate ramming the charge home. This should NEVER be done. The advice I got, from Mr. Marty Murphy the NMLRA* National Education and Training Co-ordinator. In fact, I will simply quote him as follows...
"First off, the occurrence of an accidental discharge from a hot ember or spark in the bore when loading your muzzleloading gun has not diminished with the use of newer powder substitutes or guns. That is why the NMLRA has always recommended that you run a damp patch** into the bore after each shot to both reduce fouling and eliminate the chance of a spark that may ignite the powder charge being placed into the barrel.

As to the question of "palm savers" for a ramrod, the NMLRA has always stressed that you should grasp your ramrod 6 to 10 inches above the bore and load by continually moving your hand(s) up another 6 to 10 inches until the ramrod has seated the load. The NMLRA recommends that you use a "working" or "bench" rod if you can and not the rod that came with the gun. Most loading rods that are held under the barrel of the gun are too short and do not have a proper end to grasp without putting the hand directly over the bore. Thus the need for a "palm saver".
