Editorial Reviews

Gaelic Storm is a "whirwind ruckus" (Village Voice) who tour worldwide for at least two hundred days out of every year. On their new album, 'Cabbage,' the band brings influences from rock, bluegrass, Jamaican, African and Middle Eastern music that may surprise those expecting purely traditional Celtic music. As many tens of thousands of record buyers and festival-goers knows, the quintet play high-energy, foot-stomping, feel-good Celtic music. 'Cabbage' carries on that tradition with Gaelic Storm's signature acoustic sound and a fresh batch of crafted story-songs.

Found these guys 7 years ago looking for Celtic music on the internet. For me, nothing comes close to their style. It's infectious, fun, witty, story-telling music. Cabbage may very well become my favorite. The instrumental tunes hold your attention in between the tales portrayed in the other songs. It's refreshing to find a group of musicians so dedicated to their art. Touring constantly and prolific with new material its a wonder they ever have time for anything else. If you're looking for Celtic music true to it's roots and at the same time modern and fresh then look no further. They cause the little bit of Irish blood I have to flow quicker in my veins!

I bought this album after attending my 4th Gaelic storm concert. I love it. It is a bit different than the other albums, not better, not worse, just different . What I have noticed is that I can listen to this over and over and not get sick of it. I notice( hear) something else each time I listen to it.

I'm a little biased because I went to see these folks in March and they sound even better live than they do on CD - been obsessed with their music ever since, and updating my collection of their stuff. I don't even have to sample a CD of theirs before buying, I have confidence it will be good.

This is such a wonderful collection of music!

The lyrics are meaningful and often fun! In "The Space Race", of course the tune is catchy, but I can't help agreeing with our hero as he muses: "Well I wouldn't mind a little ride in zero gravity, as long as they could promise I'd be home in time for tea!"
"Rum Runners" is a hilarious tribute to the `heroes' of Prohibition. And if "Green Eyes, Red Hair" doesn't get your feet tapping - wow that song is catchy! "Just Ran Out of Whiskey" is a mellow ballad and fun to sing-along with. In all fairness, "Turn This Ship Around" is probably the track I could most do without, interesting story, but still doesn't hold my fancy lyrically or musically.

The instrumentals are just infectious! "Blind Monkey" gets me bopping my head, tapping my fingers and heels right along. "The Buzzards of Bourbon Street" - possibly my favorite track on this CD, it has a rhythm I just can't shake, if I knew how to dance to it I sure would - as it I'll try anyway.

If you are a fan of Gaelic Storm or the genre in general, even if you are new to either, I don't think you will go wrong taking a chance on this one.

I really do like their music. I've been on a celtic kick since college when my roommate introduced me to it and then my aunt found this band. Good music and you can't get it on the radio in the Bay Area.

I discovered Gaelic Storm about five years ago when a friend recommended them to me ( he knew I liked Flogging Molly). I've been a growing fan ever since. Upon receiving it last year, What's the Rumpus? immediately became my favorite CD. I'm very excited about Cabbage because I hear in it the same fun-loving style that Gaelic Storm has maintained in its previous releases, while at the same time keeping a fresh face on its genre. No one can argue that "If you've heard one Gaelic Storm album, you've heard them all" because each one brings something a bit different to the table.

I just got my first listen of Cabbage this morning coming into work. It's excellent! There are more stories, more driving beats, and a good blending of other musical styles and influences. It's Celtic / Irish music that will have you listening to it over and over again. Their rendition of the Simon and Garfunkel hit Cecilia is very well done. Green Eyes Red Hair is a stand-out. And wait until you get to the story about the sailors wanting to Turn This Ship Around! Well done Gaelic Storm. Cabbage will definitely make a new group of folks Storm Chasers!

There is nothing better for your mood then a healthy dose of Gaelic Storm. This album continues their upbeat sound, with some laugh out loud stories mixed in.
